Re: notes app and evernote

2016-03-01 Thread Ben J. Bloomgren
I don't know anything about Evernote, but I know that the Notes app on my
iPhone has become more of a friend due to the remind me of this command in
Siri. Do you guys know of a better way not to forget about the notes that
you write?

Subject: notes app and evernote

Hello,

On my mac I used to find the notes app to be just fine for quickly jotting
down notes, especially from phone calls. Now when I use it I constantly hear
voice Over saying “body, body, body” and I find this extremely annoying.
This is very frustrating when I am navigating through notes to review or
find information from my notes. I know voice Over is just announcing the
style of my text but is there any way to make voice Over stop doing this? It’s
making it very difficult to review my notes.

As a side thought, is EverNote voice Over friendly on the mac or iOS? Maybe
I should switch to a different app for taking notes? It’s just so quick, or
at least it used to be quick to take notes on my Mac or iPhone, especially
if I use Siri to create a note for me. Does EverNote have a mac app or just
a web interface. I don’t know anything much about EverNote other than a lot
of people use it.

BTW, I am using El Capitan.

Thanks,
Christina

Interesting that you say this.

I've got the new magic touch pad 2 and on pairing it the other day I find it's

I've been in to vo utilities and both reset and setup agin the vo settings I

I would have thought it would work fine with Yosemite or does it need el

Re: Best Way to Read Bookshare Books on a Refershable Braille Reader?

2016-03-01 Thread Cristina Hartmann
Caitlyn,

You can go on the website and select BRP from the dropdown menu next to the
Download button. You'll get a file formatted specifically for a refreshable
braille reader. (But to read it on your device, you'll either need to do it
at a computer or use a SD card on a braille reader that has storage).

Everyone else,

Thanks so much for all of your help. I looked through the tip sheet that
Karen posted and it was very helpful. It seems like I was using Read2Go in
a suboptimal way (not separating the pages, etc.). I'll, however, try out
Voice Dream and see which app I prefer.

Have a great day, everyone!

Cristina

Subject: Best Way to Read Bookshare Books on a Refershable Braille Reader?

Hi all,

I'm pretty new to the refreshable braille reader and the associated
technology in general, so please bear with me. I'm probably goofing
something up.

I have a Humanware Brailliant Bi 40 and I have a Bookshare membership. I
want to read the books in braille as I am hearing impaired, so I hate
listening to books. I'm using the Bookshare Read2Go app, but I find the app
clunky and difficult to use on the braille display. For example, some
pretty basic commands, such as "scroll page down" doesn't work with the
Brailliant.

I know I can download a file specialized for refreshable braille readers
on the website, but I prefer to read away from my desktop.

Has anyone found a good way to use Bookshare with a refreshable braille
reader? Or am I missing some tips?

Any help would be enormously appreciated! Thanks.

Best,
Cristina

Christina,

you can also use voice dream reader on your i phone, paired with your

thanks for telling us about the special version of books for refreshable

Recording iPad Screen (again)

2016-03-01 Thread Jeff Berwick
Hi all,

Thank you for your guidance earlier on this topic.

I am, however, unable to record the screen without recording Voiceover and also
recording my voice through the built-in mic on my Macbook Pro. Is this
possible?

Here is what I've done:

1. Connect the iPad
2. Launch Quicktime
3. Hit [ctrl]+[command]+n to open the screen capture window
4. Set the input device to the iPad.
5. Press the 100% volume button

If I go into the input selection box again to select the built-in mic, it
switches away from the iPad.

So, this allows me to hear what I'm doing on the iPad, but it is added to the
recording. Can I hear Voiceover while still only having my voice recorded
through the built-in mic?

Thanks for your assistance.

Jeff

How do you get it to fill in your login information? I do have the extension

didn’t work. I also can’t figure out how to open the user guide. Is there a
shortcut?

Hi Cristina, and others.
On the bookshare discussion list Angela who works with technical support provided this

Subject: Best Way to Read Bookshare Books on a Refershable Braille Reader?

Hi all,

I'm pretty new to the refreshable braille reader and the associated technology
in general, so please bear with me. I'm probably goofing something up.

I have a Humanware Brailliant Bi 40 and I have a Bookshare membership. I want to read the
books in braille as I am hearing impaired, so I hate listening to books. I'm using the
Bookshare Read2Go app, but I find the app clunky and difficult to use on the braille
display. For example, some pretty basic commands, such as "scroll page down"
doesn't work with the Brailliant.

I know I can download a file specialized for refreshable braille readers on the
website, but I prefer to read away from my desktop.

Has anyone found a good way to use Bookshare with a refreshable braille reader?
Or am I missing some tips?

Any help would be enormously appreciated! Thanks.

Best,
Cristina

notes app and evernote

2016-03-01 Thread Christina C.
Hello,

On my mac I used to find the notes app to be just fine for quickly jotting down
notes, especially from phone calls. Now when I use it I constantly hear voice
Over saying “body, body, body” and I find this extremely annoying. This is very
frustrating when I am navigating through notes to review or find information
from my notes. I know voice Over is just announcing the style of my text but is
there any way to make voice Over stop doing this? It’s making it very difficult
to review my notes.

As a side thought, is EverNote voice Over friendly on the mac or iOS? Maybe I
should switch to a different app for taking notes? It’s just so quick, or at
least it used to be quick to take notes on my Mac or iPhone, especially if I
use Siri to create a note for me. Does EverNote have a mac app or just a web
interface. I don’t know anything much about EverNote other than a lot of people
use it.

BTW, I am using El Capitan.

Thanks,
Christina

Re: Accessible Program to Tell Me What is taking up so much space

2016-03-01 Thread Scott Granados
Just to add to this, don’t be afraid of the unix shell. It’s very good that
you’re cautious and take care but it’s not that delicate. The du command for
example is totally read only. I understand the fear but it’s a powerful part
of your computer and you may want to revisit that issue. Again though if you
really don’t feel comfortable then no pressure just a friendly suggestion.

Ok folks,

Can't we put this to rest?

Anne and Jonathan have produced a good product that can only increase our
abilities when using pages / Voiceover.

As for handing out copies of the book for free,

All I can say is if you do that then I hope you know your copywrite laws,
because that's a breech of copywrite!

RE: It's finally here, a comprehensive guide to Pages on the Mac with VoiceOver

2016-03-01 Thread Simon Fogarty
When I think about it I'm not sure what issue people have with paying $35 USA
to buy this eBook,

I'm guessing it will cost me around $50 NZ dollars to buy the same book,
But I'll be buying it.

Well, I agree there is value in sharing knowledge but in capitalistic
economies, value is usually given for value received. That's why educators and
others who advance knowledge are paid for their services. Maybe you should
explain what you mean by free knowledge because it seems as if it's your
singular opinion.

Re: Weird problem in Keynote

2016-03-01 Thread Daniela Rubio
Hello!

Some time ago I had a very similar problem and what I did is to create a
totally new presentation, copying the slides one by one into it. I also
restored VoiceOver preferences, and I was through with it.

Hope it helps!

Sincerely,
Daniela Rubio
