Music app in Catalina

2019-09-14 Thread 'Dan' via MacVisionaries
Hello,
Will the music App in OS X Catalina have a user adjustable EQ like in the
current iTunes?
Also will iOS 13 have an EQ that allows for user settings other than presets
only?

Hi,

On the Mac, I use it daily. Different aspects are more accessible than others.
I usually use a combination of Safari and Chrome and a combination of VO and
ChromeVox. You can also use G Suite apps and services in iOS and the soon to
be iPadOS. Again, some things are easier in one platform vs the other. For
example, some Google expandable menus work better in Chrome with CV, yet VO is
faster and handles some other aspects of the browser experience better. Sorry
for being somewhat vague.

Re: Deleting an Email Address that Autocompletes Incorrectly

2019-09-14 Thread Craig Werner
Tim, thank you. Your suggestion worked in all but one case. I
deleted a search string containing characters of a particular address
I never want to auto-complete, and when I type the first characters
into the "to" field of a new message, the address still autocompletes.
I literally read every entry in the "Previous Recipients" window and
can't find the address which persists in autocompleting. Any other
place I should look, please?

Need Help with Negative Numbers in Excel

2019-09-14 Thread Dave Carlson
I continue to explore using MS-Excel on my Mac. I’m starting to get a handle on
it, but there’s a major problem. Negative numbers.
There are places where they appear and I need to know when they do. As I scroll
across and vertically through various amounts of US$, I am accustomed to being
able to hear when there are parenthesis around a negative value. So far, even
with VO set to announce all punctuation, these never speak. So all my
amounts sound like they are positive numbers.
Even changing the negative value format to be a -$ instead of parentheses VO
still will not announce the minus sign.
What do I need to change either in Excel or in VO to make this work? It’s a
game-changer.

2019-09-14 Thread Dave Carlson
Any takers out there? I still haven’t figured out a way to have VO specifically
verbalize parenthesis or minus signs in Excel. And this also appears to be a
problem using theNumbers app.

Well, you should look in your contacts also. Both contacts and recent
recipients have a search field that should help you. I find Google contacts
particularly cumbersome with adding items I don't want. If you have a Google

Best wishes,

Maybe I am missing something. However, why are the Screen Reader Users (like

Re: A Substitute for Alex -- Where is Eloquence?

2019-09-14 Thread Mary Otten
If Apple ever decides to open up the system so that you can use voices that you
bought somewhere, such as if you have voice dream reader and have purchased
voices there, then maybe there will be a greater selection available for
systemwide usage. And should that happen, if somebody decided somehow legally
to Port eloquence over, then maybe. But that is a lot of if‘s. And somebody
would have to decide it was worth their time and that they could make money.
Another dubious possibility.

Note firefox is not an apple product,

It is made by a company called mazilla
It is third party and apple / mac have no control over it’s development or how
it works with voiceover,

This is a similar situation on a windows machine with jaws in that firefox is a
crap browser currently and doesn’t really do well with screen reading
technology.

So if you have issues with its accessibility you will have to take it up with
the firefox developers and that is not apple.

Re: A Substitute for Alex -- Where is Eloquence?

2019-09-14 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Dave,

I presume you’ve tried all the other English-language voices available to
download from Apple? I can’t stand Alex but I use good old Fred most of the
time. I also use Fiona as my system voice.
In English, we have a huge choice of voices. I’m much more limited when it
comes to French voices but Thomas suits me fine.
Cheers,

Anne
