Re: VoiceOver transmitting in zoom meetings

2021-03-04 Thread Jürgen Fleger
Yes, I experience this as well. But only if I use the EarPods. I guess the
microfone is too close to the headphone. So try to use another headphone best
not a headset but a simple headphone.

Quite the peaceful thing to learn given how many years I have used this

Hi Everyone. I have found that if you swipe your apple watch can tell you how
many numbers you have written in your passcode text field. M It used to click,
and I wish that would come back, but they don’t want to revitalize the clicks
which worked great. Lately, However, to find out how many numbers are written

I figured that was probably the case, but it sure would be nice to have better
information. I would think if book share had been hacked, they would’ve put
some thing on their site or let people know somehow. The only other option I
can see that that leaves us that my Mac is compromised, and if that’s the case
probably all my passwords have been leakd. It would be good to know what the
actual situation is. LOL

Sounds like a notification from the Safari Saved Passwords utility feature of

I don’t know where Apple gets this information from, or if it is creditable.

strange message when logging into Bookshare from my Mac

2021-03-04 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Hi all,

Just a minute ago, I logged into Bookshare and VO spoke the following message:
Your password has been discovered in a data leak and should be changed." I have
never seen this message before. Does anyone know what to do about it? I mean,
obviously I can change my password, but I'm wondering why I received the
message in the first place, e.g. where was the data leak? I haven't heard about
one associated with Bookshare, so does that mean my Mac has been compromised?

I'd love to hear from anyone who knows more about this message than I do.
TIA,
Donna

Re: Best OCR solution for the mac with VoiceOver?

2021-03-04 Thread 'Robert Cole' via MacVisionaries
I am using PDF Pen 8 with Catalina.
But when I move to Big Sur I will need to upgrade it, or purchase another app.
Most apps have Trials, so you can check it out to see if its the one for you.
Another app is Prizmo.
I have not tried it in years.
You can also try Fine Reader.
Thanks,
Rob

That would certainly do it, though this should not be on by default.
It is possible to share your screen, without sharing your computer’s sound, if
that is what you need to do.

Re: Newspaper archives

2021-03-04 Thread Karen Lewellen

Ian,
While I have not used voiceover for research, I feel comfortable stating
that the screen reader in and of itself, does not impact archive
accessibility.
Since you are doing university related research, starting with their
library, and associated network libraries may be the smartest step.
I have found over the years that humans are delighted for a chance to
bridge the gap between a researcher and information.

Its fun for them, and interesting when you ask nicely.
If you truly have issues, reach out off list and I will help bridge those
gaps for you.

Re: Passcode on Apple watch

A couple things:
First, if your iPhone is handy, you can put your watch on your wrist and unlock
your phone to avoid entering the passcode.
Second, rather than swiping on your watch, you can simply move your finger on
the watch face until you land on the digit, then double-tap.

I've heard about the Kurzweil reader but thought there must be something out

software versions for the Mac that will work with scanned documents or PDF

Has anyone come across a voiceover friendly archive site? I don’t mind paying

With many thanks

Passcode on Apple watch

2021-03-04 Thread Paul Hopewell
Hello,
I have recently acquired an Apple Watch SE running the latest Watch OS. I use
my Apple Watch for haptic time and for tracking health data such as heart beat
and exercise data.
For security reasons I would rather not have private data such as Mail,
Messages, Contacts, Wallet and Calendar data on my watch but it seems that I
cannot remove these Apps from my watch.
So it seems that I must set a passcode on my watch. As a VO user I use touch
typing mode on my iPhone but it seems that this is not available on my watch
and the alternative of the touch with one finger and tap with another finger is
not possible on the small watch face. So how do I reliably enter a passcode on
my watch?
I see that there is an option for my iPhone to unlock my watch when I unlock my
iPhone. If I set this on then do I still have to enter the passcode on my
watch every time I replace it on my wrist after removing it for charging?
In summary what is the easiest way for a VO user to secure an Apple Watch?
Many thanks for any tips … Paul Hopewell

Newspaper archives

2021-03-04 Thread Ian Harrison
Hello listers,

I am doing a dissertation in the UK and need to access newspaper archives going
back to the first world war.

Has anyone come across a voiceover friendly archive site? I don’t mind paying
for access.

With many thanks
Ian
