Neither is mine Chris. I just wrote an email to Apple Accessibility regarding
this issue. I suggest that everyone using a 2010 Mac do the same.

Re: Mc Os 10.12 questions.

2016-09-27 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland
Interesting! So, yes, he absolutely is using Alex. That could be the
problem. OK, to the other genglemen, again, you didn't want your real name
being publisized, but, do you know how to download Tom, kind a like we did
with the enhanced Alex voice the other day? It's the same principle.
Download it, but don't switch to it until you're sure it's totally
downloaded. Try either that, or Daniel, maybe Samantha, or something.

Are you using Alex by any chance? If you recall my last message about this
issue, it only happens for me if I use Alex as my Voiceover voice. It's
strange that Macs 2011 and up don't have this issue but it's really
disconcerting that the 2010's do and I really hope Apple fixes this right
away. In the meantime, use one of the Nuance voices if you have them. They
never crash Voiceover and if you don't have one and need help installing one
I can guide you through how to do it.

Re: Application for making ringtones for iphone & android phones using El Capitan?

2016-09-27 Thread Bill Gallik
First of all, I need to correct a minor error I made in my original post; the
name of the app is ringtone maker Pro.

As to the question about where it will begin creating the ringtone from a sound
source, it does begin at the very beginning. However, there are very accessible
features to allow you to start at a point in the sound source where you prefer.
The app will also allow you to create a 40 seconds ringtone to as low as a five
second ringtone/alarm. It may be less than five seconds, but I'm not sure
because I have never tried to go lower than a five second tone.

The process is as follows:
– Naturally, you open up the app.
– You select a sound source – probably a song on your eye device.
– There is also a provision for recording a new sound source.
– You are then placed in a dialogue where you are able to select various
features such as beginning point and endpoint as well as fade in and fade out.
– I think it is a very accessible as a well designed and usable app.
– When finished, you hit the save button.
– After saving the tone, there is a share button that will allow you to email
the tone as an attachment.

Disclaimer: I have absolutely no financial stake in the successful marketing of
this app!

There is a distinct lack of high quality cases for the current touch

Check out the Griffin Survivor. The older ones had an issue with the
screen protector but I think they dealt with that as I've had no

Let us know what you end up going with!

Hi. I researched a ton of cases before settling on the griffin
survivor heavy duty case for my iPod touch 6th generation.

There is a distinct lack of high quality cases for the current touch
which is disappointing. The Lifeproof has terrible reviews and seems
to be nothing like the Lifeproof cases for the iPhone 6s for
example...

Check out the Griffin Survivor. The older ones had an issue with the
screen protector but I think they dealt with that as I've had no
issues with touch sensitivity with this new case. Also, the buttons
and ports are all easy to access.

Let us know what you end up going with!

Cameron.

neither one of us can find an otterbox defender for the IPod Touch 6th gen

So yeah, if you could help us both out, guys, maybe give us a link, or if
not an Otterbox, at least something there similar, that would be great!
He's probably getting an IPhone 7 Plus in a few weeks, which BTW'll be his

Re: AccessNote

2016-09-27 Thread E.T.

Hi Grant,
Thanks. That synced the notes already in Dropbox which was what I
wanted. While playing with AccessNote, changes I made apparently do not
automatically sync unless I press that button. This is helpful. Now I
can work in either direction.

Re: Application for making ringtones for iphone & android phones using El Capitan?

2016-09-27 Thread Jessica Moss
Do you get to choose the point where you want to create your ringtone, or does
it just automaticly start at the beginning of the track? I have this app
called ringtones+, I think it’s called, that has over 500 prerecorded ones, but
you can create your own as well, but it always seems to start at the beginning
of the file, which I really don’t like, unless there’s a way to change that,
that’s not accessible.

Re: Word to pages batch converter?

2016-09-27 Thread Jonathan Cohn
OK, I had never used the open handler so I needed to play a bit.

It looks like it returns a list of files. I am not quite sure if the file items
are themselves lists, but am working that out, it did appear that your repeat
was not properly enclosing the logic.

I am going to break it down to a couple more handlers and then give it a try
So, I will have a SetPagesExtension handler that will take arguments and return
a POSIX file object with proper name for the save.
I will also create a handler that will just open the given file and save it.
again. For testing purposes, I created a run handler

on run
set aList to the files of Window 1 of Application Finder whose name contains
".docx"
repeat with anItem in aList
set NewName to SetPagesType(anItem )
try OpenAndClose(anItem, NewName)
on error
say "something went wrong"
end try
end repeat
end run

Best wishes,

Jonathan

Mouse not working when zoomed in with VO on

2016-09-27 Thread John JD Denning
Hello, Since my macOS upgrade to 10.12 I’m experiencing a problem with the
mouse.

If I’m using VO, and need to zoom in to use the mouse. The mouse pointer
vanishes. If I zoom all the way out the pointer is there, but once I zoom in
and touch the mouse, no pointer.

Anyone see this?

Re: Word to pages batch converter?

2016-09-27 Thread Grant
Sorry guys--I misread the message.

Other than avoiding the need to specify a name and location for the newly
created Pages document upon first save, I'm not sure I see the advantage in
doing a batch conversion given that Pages will read both file formats just
fine. Word files tend to be smaller, and of course are compatible with a wider
array of apps; so avoiding the conversion until necessary may be best. In any
case I know that's not being helpful in answering the question, so my
apologies. I wonder if the problem with the script lies in the fact that the
newly created documents have never been saved before? I hope a solution is
found.

Hi,

I experience sluggishness as well. Especially in the safe dialogue in Textedit

All the best

Re: Word to pages batch converter?

2016-09-27 Thread Tim Kilburn
Grant,

Good thought, but the idea here is that we're trying to open a Word document
and save it to Pages format. So, if one has a Word document, manually opens it
in Pages, then chooses Save, the Save dialog will pop up and will be ready to
save the document as a Pages document. The conversion was done on open so that
Pages could properly display the Word document. This script automates the open
then save process, but does not properly follow through with the save. I
suspect that it does have something to do with it being a Word document, but
running this script on a Pages document doesn't always do things correct
either. I've even forced the save line to use the Pages format by adding "as
Pages Format" to the line, still with no joy.

Thanks for your ideas.

Hi Tim,

This is just a guess on my part, but Pages of course doesn't "save" to Word
format; it "exports" to Word. Do you think that could be why your app doesn't
function as expected? It actually causes features like auto-save to work
differently, too.

Follow-Up on Recent Bluetooth Speaker Connectivity

2016-09-27 Thread Bill Gallik
First, thanks to the folks that offered their insights as how to pair a
bluetooth speaker to my Mac Mini! Your help is very much appreciated.

The crux of the issue was that I still had the speaker paired with my iPhone 6
and once I removed that pairing the speaker readily appeared in the device
table on my Mac and I was able to pair it.

Interesting suggestions - thank you. I would prefer the simplicity of copying

though.

Re: Kobo for iphone

2016-09-27 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Andrew,

Kobo is accessible for iPhone. I use it every day. It’s a bit quirky to set up,
but once configured, it works great.
You need to set the page transition to None. I have my library organised in
alphabetical order by title as when I configured it, sorting by author, the
book titles weren’t accessible.
You can read straight through a chapter by doing a two-finger swipe up, but if
you pause and lose your place, you have to advance through the chapter by
adjusting the item Location in Book, which actually means location in chapter.
Explaining how to use Kobo makes it sound complicated, but really it isn’t.
I’ve read hundreds of books with it and prefer it to Kindle or iBooks as the
reading is smoother, without extraneous noises and it stops at the end of each
chapter.

Cheers,

Anne

Kobo for iphone

2016-09-27 Thread Andrew Lamanche
Hi,

Is Kobo app for iphone now accessible? Does anyone on the list use it
successfully to read books? The thing is that Nook in UK has been taken over
by Sainsbury's Entertainment which isn't accessible and on top of it now
Sainsbury's Entertainment is giving up ebooks and handing them over to Kobo. I
have a number of books I had bought through Nook when it was still working in
the UK, and now I'm not sure whether I will ever be able to read them again if
Kobo is not accessible either.

Good morning, I am running a mid-2012 MacBook Pro and am having no problems
with my Boot Camp partition I also did beta testing this summer, and I had
absolutely no problems with boot camp. My only issue right now, is the fact
that I need to find updated drivers for my Windows 10 side of the computer. For
instance I have to reboot into Mac OS by hand when I’m in Windows. There
normally is a start up disk area if you will, that will allow the machine to be
booted into whichever operating system you wish to use. Any thoughts from
anyone on the list? Hope all is well, Maurice mines.

Re: Weird issue with Safari.

2016-09-27 Thread 'Catherine Turner' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

I wonder if it's auto-completing the URL. Mine does this and makes a
menu-type sound while it's doing it, though it doesn't say anything
about smart text.

Does it still do it if you type a URL you've never been to before?

If it is auto-complete I don't know how to switch it off. Presumably
in preferences somewhere, if it can be switched off.
