Re: Easy iPhone wireless charging hack

2016-11-06 Thread David Chittenden
These systems have been around for a few years now. Personally, I regularly use
my iPhone's lightning port, so the charging card will not fit my needs.

I read an article last week which appears to indicate that Apple is
significantly closer to the 15 feet wireless charging system. Given the time it
takes to develop and add tech, I am hopeful we will see the distance wireless
charging in next year's model.

Note: current wireless charging requires the device to be sitting on the
charging plate. In other words, it is like the Apple Watch charging system.

You know I’m not sure the point of the mod when you can buy cases with the
charging card built in professionally made.

If I had brass ones Id figure a way to crack the iPhone open and wire it
internally so you don’t lose the port but I don’t have the cash to throw at
breaking iPhones.:)

The end is near, AT shutting down 2G network

2016-11-06 Thread Scott Granados
This is an older article but it’s a good reminder that January 1 of 2017 will
be the last drop dead dead for 2G devices. These are devices that use GPRS /
Edge connectivity on the AT network. The spectrum on the 1900 mhz band and
850 mhz band will be reallocated to LTE . Very old phones will no longer
function and some newer phones will have issues on the voice portion of their
function. It goes to show you how far behind AT was in it’s VOLTE roll out
in that in the beginning of 2016 they were still only barely supporting VOLTE
and companies like T-Mobile (the first) and ah hem Verizon Wireless (you’re
welcome haha) beat good ol T to the punch more than 1 - 2 years ahead of time.
Also included are other networks 2 and 3G shutdown schedules, verizon
projecting 2021 for full LTE only, T-Mobile pushing out the date to 2020 and
Sprint with no idea what so ever when they will be fully LTE. One of the hold
ups on the T-Mobile side is how many alarms and vending machines they support
on the 2G network. Read more here

Re: deleting songs in a smart playlist

2016-11-06 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

As Jonathan mentioned, the Smart Playlist is based on search criteria that you
defined to have specific songs added to that playlist. So, if you don't wish
the current songs to be in that Smart Playlist, either delete the specific
Smart Playlist, or edit the criteria to have it select new criteria. To edit
the criteria, use VO-shift-m on the playlist name to bring up the Contextual
menu. You should be able to edit the playlist from there.

Re: Easy iPhone wireless charging hack

2016-11-06 Thread michael babcock
as it’s not ethical to just send a link to a list without information, let me
copy and paste the article below for your reference.
Tired of waiting for Apple to add wireless charging to the iPhone? Here's how
you can do it yourself, no screwdrivers or soldering irons required.
Here's how you can add wireless charging to your iPhone, quickly, cheaply, and
easily, and without risking your warranty.
Here's what you need:
• A wireless charging receiver card for your iPhone. A quick search of
somewhere like Amazon will turn up a number of solutions, such as
BEZALEL I6 Qi wireless charger receiver patch module
http://amzn.to/2fS5XPY
(price at publication is $16.25).
• A Qi-compatible charger. Any of the Ones listed here will work fine:
http://www.zdnet.com/article/wireless-chargers-for-the-samsung-galaxy-s6-galaxy-s6-edge/

, but there are many more you can choose from out there.
• A non-metallic flexible case or cover no thicker than 5mm (only required if
the receiver coil you've chosen doesn't come with a case). Apple's own silicone
cases work well (although they are expensive), as do the cheapo versions you
can pick up from eBay or Amazon.
Fitting the charging coil is easy. Just pop the wireless charging card into
your iPhone's connector, fold it over the back, and pop it into a case and
you're done.
You do lose the port on your phone (unless you're willing to disconnect the
card) but if all you use it for is charging, then this won't matter much.
With a compatible in-car charger (such as this one:
http://amzn.to/2eDFUKC
) you can continue to charge your iPhone when on the move.
In my experience, these wireless charging systems work very well, and are far
more convenient than having to plug a cable into the handset every time. The
only time it isn't is when you want to use your iPhone while it's charging,
then a cable is easier.

I have not experimented with this but just saw it as i was exploring, see

West Virginia. Robert Bird was a Klu Klux Klan member and openly used the N

not give her a pass either, she has a long checker history not only of criminal
behavior, pay to play business dealings but anti black pro KKK dealings. Both
candidates are flawed and in full disclosure, I voted for neither option.

To answer your question, yes there are 3rd party options but none have any
sizable following. The Libertarians of which I am a member are best described
as economically conservative and socially liberal meaning for example we want
small government but also support Gay Marriage or pro choice viewpoints. (just
an example) There is also the Green party this year which is a very left
leaning group heavily environmentally focused and I believe has historical
connections to the communist workers party. To give you an idea of the
percentage breakdown, about 45% of the population of the US will vote Democrat,
about 45% will vote Republican and the remainder will vote 5 - 8% Libertarian,
the remainder will be the Green party and the write in option. Voters have the
option to write the name of anyone they wish on the ballot as well instead of
picking one of the listed options. I know for example someone who is writing
in Kermit The Frog.

Personally, I know the candidate I voted for won’t win, I hope Hillary does not
as I view her as more dangerous to the country over all being a complete gun
grabbing criminal. I do support Trump’s economic plan but like you Simon I
don’t feel either candidate is a great option and in order to sleep at night I
couldn’t in good conscience vote for either option, so I didn’t.

Re: Accessible smart TV

Hi,
The model is the Samsung UN32J550AFXZA. It is a 32 inch model. I purchased
two of them to get rid of my CRT TVs. For convenience, I had a sighted friend
set them up but according to the ham who put me onto these items, this isn't
necessary. Here is a link to a podcast describing the unit. I hope it's still
there.

FS:Full Logic and ProTools recording setup including a loaded Apple iMac, and magsafe charger for Mac Book air 11 inch...

2016-11-06 Thread Cameron Strife
Hi everybody. I have permission from the list mod for this post...

I am selling a complete recording setup based around a loaded iMac.
Please inquire for details regarding other studio items including a
vocal booth and tube preamp etc.

I am also selling a mag safe 2 charger for the mac book air 11 inch.
We thought the two would work but it's not backward compatible so this
is sitting new in the box.

Please write to me off list at: came...@cameronstrife.com to make an
offer on any of the below items. If someone wanted more than one item,
they would get a discount! I only accept payment via pay pal and
always ship with tracking and insurance... Buyers in Canada, the UK,
and Europe are welcome to make me an offer as well but please keep in
mind that shipping and insurance is quite expensive when shipping
internationally.

Thanks,

Cameron.

21 inch Apple iMac with Intel quad core I7 processor at 2.8gHz per
core, 16gb of ddr3 ram, internal 256gb solid state hard drive,
internal 1tb mechanical drive, Intel Thunderbolt, Firewire 800,
airport wireless, bluetooth, sd card reader, superdrive etc. Machine
is in good condition with no heating issues or hard drive performance
etc. (There is a small dent on the right edge of the monitor portion
but this will not get any worse and does not effect the display
quality according to a couple of sighted people I had check it out. It
is an easy repair but I'm not attempting it. In any case, it's purely
cosmetic.) Keyboard, mouse, and power chord included. I can also
include a 1 terabyte USB 3.0 external hard drive that's formatted to
work with both mac and windows so you can have a three drive setup for
audio/midi work. I have been running OSX and windows ten on this
machine and the performance is really snappy! Windows seven 64 bit
also worked very well on here. It is Siera compatible although I
haven't upgraded from Yosematy yet...

Focusrite Saffire pro 40 20 in, 20 out 24 bit 96kHz firewire
audio/midi interface for mac and windows. (Can be used with firewire
or Thunderbolt ports.) Features include one rack u size, eight
microphone preamps, eight line in jacks, eight line outs, two front
panel nutrick jacks for microphones or line level sources, phantom
power, pad, two headphone outs with seperat volume controls, midi
ports, adat, SPDIF, as well as two firewire ports for daisy chaining
etc. It supports every sort of setup from stereo up to 7.1 surround!
Power cable, firewire cable, and original box included.

Ivory grand pianos 2 for mac and windows;boxed with all dvds and
manual etc. You'll need an iLok 2.

I'd be careful with this. We really don't know who the source of this msg
was from. All it says is, Easy iPhone, so yeah.

I'd be very very careful.

Re: Which ear phones/buds for excellent music on ipod/iphone?

2016-11-06 Thread Scott Granados
Hi Andrew, David’s recommendations are very good but i thought I might add
another angle.

For the best headphones I have used, I am an AKG fan myself. There used to be
a reference standard pair called the AKG k240DF which were used in recording
studios very heavily. These are an over the ear model with a defused field
type transducer which had great base response. However, the qualifier is they
require a lot of power to light up. The iPhone 7+ with adapter do quite well
at powering these headphones but previous iterations of the iPhone required a
headphone amplifier to really get the most out of them. (especially if you’re
like me and are used to blowing your head off with the sound pressure level)

I have used a custom made to my ear pair of Stacks headphones but these would
not be good for your application. First of all they cost over $5000, they
required being wired in line with the speaker terminals to power and used
electrostatic film technology meaning they needed a high current power source
so needed to be plugged in. However, if you didn’t mind having thousands of
volts near your head or being wired in with several cables to your stereo
system they were mind blowing in their sound quality. The AKG headphones I
mentioned can be still had on Ebay and other music sites for about $100 to $200
and AKG makes a modern version of these, I think they are 340 series but I’m
not sure the exact part number.

On the ear bud side, the ones that come with the iPhone aren’t bad for the
money. In my local mall there’s a company that will scan your ear with a laser
and 3D print you a set of headphones for about $300. These aren’t bad either
and the fit is obviously fantastic do to the fact they are custom made.
I’d also support David’s suggestion of waiting a month for the wireless
EarPods. These should be about $159 or so.

Hope that helps.

Re: Which ear phones/buds for excellent music on ipod/iphone?

2016-11-06 Thread David Chittenden
Apple announced the Air Pods during their September special event when they
announced the iPhone 7 and 7+. Apple distributed beta units to various tech
reviewers, all of whom have given very good to excellent reviews. Try searching
on Google for Air Pod review to locate some.

The Airpods autosync between all devices on the same Apple ID when paired with
one device. They do not have any wires. Each AirPod has an IR sensor on the
inside to automatically know when it is in an ear. When in the ear, the AirPod
activates. If both are in both ears, one gets stereo, whilst if one is in an
ear, one gets mono. The device auto selects. Each AirPod has a mic, so
reviewers state that when both are in, Siri works well, even in noisy
environments. Double-tapping the outside of the AirPod, whilst it is in the
ear, activates Siri. Reviewers state that one cannot adjust volume on the
AirPod directly; it must be adjusted on the iDevice, Mac, or Apple Watch.
Battery life is around 5 hours. Recharge for 3 hours of use takes 15 mins in
the case. Case provides enough battery for 5 recharges, or up to 24 hours of
usage before case must be recharged. AirPods can be paired with non-Apple
devices. Apparently, all paring occurs in the case, so the case manages the
initial pairing set-up protocols. One reviewer stated range of 800 feet with an
iPhone, in the person's yard. I have not seen any official statement of
distance from Apple.

Kinda glad to know that that checkbox doesn’t make a difference, Kinda in the
fact that now i don’t have to test it, but not glad in the fact that the issue
didn’t get fixed.

2016-11-06 Thread Michael Babcock
I wonder if the checkbox directly to the right of the slider "Use ambient noise
reduction checked” has anything to do with it.
I have not experimented with this but just saw it as i was exploring, see i

Re: Accessible smart TV

2016-11-06 Thread Paul Henrichsen
Hi. Samsung has 2 models starting at around $230. One is not a smart TV, but
the higher price one is a smartTV with network capabilities. Got mine at Best
Buy for around $270. It is very accessible. Unfortunately, I don't know the
model numbers. But, there are two models.

Which ear phones/buds for excellent music on ipod/iphone?

2016-11-06 Thread Andrew Lamanche
Hi,

Could you share your experiences with best possible ear phones/buds that I
could use with ipod and iphone with good base to listen to music? Quality is
important for me even if I were to save up to get them. I'd prefer the earbuds
that sit in your ear rather then go into the ear canal. I guess since I have
no sight, I like to be able to hear some ambient sounds, or if somebody
approaches me in a café; it's awkward if I don't respond.

Many thanks

Andrew

Re: Accessible smart TV

2016-11-06 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Paul,

Not sure of your country of origin, but recent laws in the United States are
requiring TV's to be more accessible. I believe the law goes into full effect
in December

The
21st Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act

requires in .
■ Article 2 includes:
Requires user controls for TVs and other video programming devices to be
accessible to people who are blind or visually impaired, and requires TVs and
other video programming devices to have a button, key, icon, or comparable
mechanism designated for activating closed captioning and video description

and

■ Requires on-screen text menus and program guides displayed on TV by set-top
boxes to be accessible to people who are blind or visually impaired and
requires set-top boxes to have a button, key, icon, or comparable mechanism
designated for activating closed captioning (when built-in to the set-top box

.

That is unless some official thinks this is too pesky of a regulation.

Best wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

Microphone Input Volume Changing

2016-11-06 Thread Brandon A. Olivares
Hi everyone,

When I use my microphone for online meetings, I notice that the volume will
often adjust itself. Unfortunately this affects how I sound to others, as I’ll
go from a normal volume, to very faint. I have to go into System Preferences /
Sound and turn the input volume back up.

This happens both with the built-in microphone, as well as my USB microphone.

How can I stop this from happening? It is incredibly annoying.

Thanks,
Brandon

OK, I think I have this figured out.

1. Open Windows menu and select"Connection Doctor"
2. In the table select your Gmail Map account.
3. Below the table is a check box for connection logging, uncheck this.

don't know anything about Logic Pro, but I believe there were a set of

It would be great if somebody summarized what these scripts do either here or

Well, you can’t say Hilary isn’t racist either. Being outside the country you

Simon, only one candidate per party.

The primaries are held to elect the individual candidates per party so you have
a selection process per party and then the general election where one
representative of each runs against the other.

To answer your question, yes there are 3rd party options but none have any
sizable following. The Libertarians of which I am a member are best
described as economically conservative and socially liberal meaning for
example we want small government but also support Gay Marriage or pro
choice viewpoints. (just an example) There is also the Green party this
year which is a very left leaning group heavily environmentally focused
and I believe has historical connections to the communist workers party.
To give you an idea of the percentage breakdown, about 45% of the
population of the US will vote Democrat, about 45% will vote Republican
and the remainder will vote 5 - 8% Libertarian, the remainder will be the
Green party and the write in option. Voters have the option to write the
name of anyone they wish on the ballot as well instead of picking one of
the listed options. I know for example someone who is writing in Kermit

2016-11-06 Thread Shawn Krasniuk
Hi Brandt. I wouldn't worry about Radium no longer being developed. If it still
works for you, just use it until it doesn't which doesn't seem unlikely that it
won't if they're still keeping their database active. You know what they say,
if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I love Radium because I'm a Sirius XM
subscriber and I've heard that their website isn't accessible for streaming and
I'm not too crazy about the 90 minute BS that the native app has when you don't
use your phone. At least when I'm out and about or listening to an away game of
an NBA team, I know I can listen to it without interruptions.

A Mac alternative for Radium?

2016-11-06 Thread Brandt Steenkamp
Good morning folks,

I have been using Radium since I discovered the app in mid 2013. The news that
it is not being actively developed any more is; not good.

On iOS I really love Tunein Radio, but there is no Tunein Radio for Mac.

Is there any alternative Apps for streaming radio? I know you can do so using
iTunes, but, I prefer a dedicated app.

If anyone can help I would be grateful.

Warm regards,

Brandt Steenkamp

Numbers on iPad

2016-11-06 Thread Jürgen Fleger
Hello,

Is there anyone here who uses Numbers in iOS 10 really productively? Navigating
seems to be not really possible in larger documents. I set the Rotor to
vertical navigation but still it didn't work out very well in my table with 271
rows and 17 columns.

Would you say Numbers is not that accessible at the moment to really use it in
a productive way? Or how do you use it?

Thanks and all the best
Jürgen

Cheers for this, it’s interesting reading,

I’m surprized about the storage size though, I would have gone more but up to

Subject: Re: 2016 Macbook Pro

I ordered the 13 inch, non touch bar model, with the 2.0 processor, 256 gigs of
storage, and 16 gigs of ram. A few days ago I wrote an extensive post on Apple
Vis, about what went into this decision; I have copied and pasted some of that
post below; I’m sorry that it’s a bit long. You can read the full post at this
link.

http://www.applevis.com/forum/hardware-accessories/why-i-just-ordered-2016-mac-book-pro-function-keys

I think that the people who have expressed a desire to stay on top of the
latest trends in user interface might be especially interested in my paragraph
about Apple’s official touch bar user interface guidelines.

First let me say that I was pretty open to the idea of the touch bar last week
as I watched the Apple event. I felt pretty confident that Apple would make
sure that this new interface worked with voice over. In the days after the
event I hungrily tried to find any information about how exactly Voice Over
accessibility would work with the touch bar. Ironically when I did come across
some specifics they both encouraged me, and at the same time helped me decide
that I have no interest in the touch bar. The best info I have found so far
about Voice Over and the touch bar comes from I accessibility, here is a link
to the relevant article.

http://iaccessibility.net/index.php/2016/10/28/voiceover-at-the-bar/

The main takeaways are, you can use the number keys as function keys, there are
keystrokes for raising and lowering volume, and to interact with sliders on the
touch bar you have to double tap and hold, wait for a tone, and then slide your
finger. I think the volume keystrokes, and the number keys acting as function
keys makes a lot of sense, and I'm really glad Apple is doing things that way.
However, as soon as I realized how relieved I was about these changes, I
realized the relief was based around me being able to avoid using the touch bar.

Basically I do not believe that the touch bar is going to make many things more
efficient or easier for voice over users. Take the sliders I previously
mentioned. I would much rather turn down brightness by simply holding down a
key, instead of the three step process voice over users will have to navigate.

To some up my thoughts about touch bar and accessibility, I believe the
experience will be fine, but I do not think it will be better then what we
already have.

I know this post is getting very very long, but I want to now get into the
primary reasons I have decided to pass on the touch bar, and they have little
to do with voice over Accessibility.

1. I do not believe the touch bar will offer anything to power users who know
there keystrokes.

If you are an IOS user who wants to get into the mac, the touch bar might be a
good way for you to uncover features you didn't know about. But as a long time
mac user who knows the keystrokes by heart, it doesn't seem like the touch bar
is going to do much that keystrokes can't already do. One of the best list of
touch bar features I know about comes from I more.

http://www.imore.com/mac-touch-bar

I have gone through this list, and almost everything in it is either doable
with keystrokes, or does not interest me. Here are a few examples of touch bar
features and the corresponding keystrokes.

Activate Siri, hold down command space, activate dictation, hit function key
twice, new folder in the finder, shift command enter, Reply to email, command
r, compose new email, command N, send email, command shift d, new tab in Safari
command t, Etc. Etc. Etc. you get the picture.

Now if you read the entire I more list, you might accuse me of cherrypicking
features to make my point. It's true that I'm leaving out a lot of features,
but that is because it would be tedious for me to list them here, and rotating
photos or using final cut do not matter to me. Just to be fair, the one and
only feature of the touch bar, that we do currently know about, and does
interest me is predictive typing. I have long believed that the native mac
spell checker is a joke, and I struggle with spelling, so predictive typing on
the mac could be great for me. However, that one feature is not enough for me
to want the touch bar, and there is nothing inherent about predictive typing
that necessitates a touch bar; it could easily be accomplished through
keystrokes.

It’s not an accident that many of the touch bar features can be accessed
through key strokes; Apple’s’ official user interface guidelines for the touch
bar state, "Don’t expose functionality solely in the Touch Bar. Not all devices
have a Touch Bar,
