Please Join Me in Requesting That the Yelp for iOS Category List View Bug Be Resolved

2018-04-05 Thread M. Taylor
Hello All,

I recently posted the following Yelp for iOS review in the App Store
regarding a new category list view bug that occurs with or without VoiceOver
enabled..

I hope you will add your voice to this request for help by using any or all
of it in your feedback to Yelp either on the App Store or via Twitter at:
@YelpSupport.

Thank you,

Mark

[BEGIN FEEDBACK]:

Subject: Cannot Get the More Button, that Leads to Category View to be
Displayed

Hello,

In the latest version of this app, when location services are enabled, the
More button (see attached photo on Twitter), that is supposed to be listed
as the last icon in the group of icons near the top of the display, in the
Nearby Area, is not showing. Unlike the More tab, located at the bottom of
the display, the button in question allows the user to see a complete list
of various categories from which to choose.

With location services enabled, I have been able to get the More icon to be
displayed on my iPhone 7 Plus (Verizon Wireless). However, I cannot get it
to be displayed on my 6 Plus (Verizon Wireless), my 6 S Plus (Sprint), or my
8 Plus (AT Wireless) phones. All of my devices are running iOS 11.3.

Currently, the only way I can get the More icon to be consistently displayed
is to uninstall the app from my phone, reboot the phone, reinstall the app,
and electing to not allow location services. Then, and only then, does the
More iCon appear in its expected location. The problem is that as soon as I
enable location services, the icon disappears.

This is an extremely annoying bug that I hope will be resolved as soon as
possible.

Thank you,

[END FEEDBACK]:

Mark

Re: Contacts on iPhone se

2018-04-05 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Do you have a macintosh also? I generally clean up my contacts on the Mac and
then they get pushed to my phone via iCloud services but still there is way too
much. Another thing you can do is create a group of your favorite contacts and
have the contacts and/or phone contact list just display that list of contacts,
though I can't remember if the IOS contact applications lets you adjust contact
groups.

Best wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

Re: Something same as Times new Roman in pages

2018-04-05 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

My version of Pages has Times New Roman. I don't believe that I did anything
special or downloaded any font set that I can recall. For me, to use Times New
Roman, I pressed cmd-t to show the Fonts window, made sure the collection was
on English, then interacted with the Family table and Times New Roman was in
there. It was way down near the bottom, but they're in alphabetical order, so
easy to locate.

HTH.

Leo,

To add to Alex's instructions, know that the menus are slightly
different in the MacOS as compared to Windows.  That is, in Windows,
the File, Edit, View etc menus are attached to the window of the
application, whereas, the menus are permanently connected to the
Desktop screen.  So, as Alex mentioned, VO-m will always access the
menu bar whenever there is a menubar to be had.  From a visual
prospective, the menubar resides at the top of the screen in all
applications.  Items like Toolbars and ribbons reside within the
window itself, thus can be access with regular VO navigation commands
while in that window.

You would hold down control and option, press m, then let the keys go.
VoiceOver should announce that you're on the Apple menu. Press right
arrow to get to the file menu, which should be two presses over, then
down arrow to open the menu. You can now start typing "export",
hitting enter when you land on it, or just down arrow to it. To
clarify, you don't need to type the full word you want, just enough
letters to find it. Again, this works in any menu in any application.l

iRingg app for mac

2018-04-05 Thread Andrew Lamanche
Hi,

Softorino offers a new app called iRingg (spelt double g at the end). It’s a
ring tone app creator. Josh Brown, the developer, has come up with a great app
to create ring tones from one’s own tracks or tracks on YouTube. It’s very
accessible, and it pushes the ring tone straight to any devices associated with
your computer, iphone, ipad, ipod etc. I’ve been trying it for a couple of
days and have quickly created a few ring tones from the tracks I like. The
only part that I’m having problems with is choosing the best part of the track
I wish to use. But it’s not a deal breaker for me as the app pretty much
automates the rest of the process. I’ve purchased it and I can’t now remember
whether it is available as a trial version but check out Softorino website for
that.

Andrew

Re: Apple’s 2019 Mac Pro will be shaped by workflows | TechCrunch

2018-04-05 Thread Steve Matzura
Let's hope somebody will reengineer VoiceOver to not go busy so often.
It has been said for years that it's because VO insists on not spreading
its processing requirements over available cores. If that's true, and it
sounds like it could be and probably is, what's taken them so long to
fix that? Hopefully it will get done, along with all the spiffy other
hardware and driver stuff mentioned in that article. We count, too, ya

starting, but not producing any windows. In the current case, the application

bonk sound. It also appears to ignore the terminate program command (CMD Q). It
does announce a question “would you like onyx to control your machine”, but no
dialog is visible to voiceover. I have even tried using the application chooser

Anyone got any clues as to how I can work around this?

My guess is that the regular expression would be:

Re: Choosing a mail folder in Microsoft Outlook for Mac

2018-04-05 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Yes, I sorta noticed that but have ignored the issue hoping it would eventually
go away. There is a way to give feedback and this would be a good issue to
provide issues to Microsoft.

I have sometimes found that I can type in the folder list, but as soon as the
folder changes focus / VoiceOver moves to the message list. Also, there is some
inconsistency with expand/colaspe sub-folders and a unlabeled icon with each
folder name.

I will say there has been some improvements in Outlook in the last six months
though in terms of its interactions with VoiceOver. I guess I am a little wary
of submitting bug reports to Microsoft because I am running an older Operating
System but the fast insider build of MS Office.

Re: Employment at Apple

2018-04-05 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi Simon,

Not that I'm interested in transplanting to Toronto, too far away and too many
people for my liking, but the posting is rather an interesting read. It sounds
like the available positions could depend on your skillset as well as the needs
of the given Apple Store. It would be worth your look to see if the equivalent
organization in NZZ has anything similar. Here's a link to the post if you
care to take a look.

No, I generally don't convert LaTeX to Word format. However, there are good
converters to HTML, which Microsoft Word can read. There's also a converter to
RTF. If you're careful in writing the LaTeX, Pandoc can actually convert to
MS-Word format directly.

Re: Export a pages document to another format

2018-04-05 Thread Tim Kilburn
Leo,

To add to Alex's instructions, know that the menus are slightly different in
the MacOS as compared to Windows. That is, in Windows, the File, Edit, View
etc menus are attached to the window of the application, whereas, the menus are
permanently connected to the Desktop screen. So, as Alex mentioned, VO-m will
always access the menu bar whenever there is a menubar to be had. From a
visual prospective, the menubar resides at the top of the screen in all
applications. Items like Toolbars and ribbons reside within the window itself,
thus can be access with regular VO navigation commands while in that window.

This works in all applications: press vo-m. In case you're not familiar, the VO

but that's a different post.

You would hold down control and option, press m, then let the keys go.
VoiceOver should announce that you're on the Apple menu. Press right arrow to
get to the file menu, which should be two presses over, then down arrow to open
the menu. You can now start typing "export", hitting enter when you land on it,
or just down arrow to it. To clarify, you don't need to type the full word you
want, just enough letters to find it. Again, this works in any menu in any
application.l

Re: TextEdit and Windows

2018-04-05 Thread Jonathan Cohn
ET,

In notepad++ there is a item in the editing menu for changing line endings. It
looks like the Latin / Win encoding used “Unix” style line endings. Windows
expects the line to end with both a carriage return and a new line character.
Which is not terribly surprising since DEC Operating Systems in the 1980’s also
used both characters, and the idea to use “/“ to indicate the start of an
option shows up in TOPS-10, VMS and the Operating System for the PDP=11 if I
remember correctly.

Re: Employment at Apple

2018-04-05 Thread Karen Lewellen

Hi Simon,
I cannot speak to your home country.
However just last week I got an e-mail about an opportunity here where
apple is seeking blind and vision impaired individuals for possible
employment. they are coordinating the effort with CNIB the Canadian
National Institute for the blind. The invitation includes a place to
share your resume and if selected states apple will be meeting with
prospects later this month or the next.
So, indeed clearly they are willing to staff an individual who is
qualified first and sight impaired as an extension.

Re: Export a pages document to another format

2018-04-05 Thread Alex Hall
This works in all applications: press vo-m. In case you're not familiar, the VO
keys are control and option together. You can choose to use caps lock as well,
but that's a different post.

Export a pages document to another format

2018-04-05 Thread Leo Bado

hi everyone,

As I said in my introduction I'm totally new on macos systems. Now what
I want to do is this, since I'm using pages I want to know how to export
a pages document to another format just like the support appple web site
says it might be done.

here is what they say:

1.

2.

Open the document, then choose File > Export To > [/file format/]
(from the File menu at the top of your screen).

The File menu open with Export To selected, with its submenu showing
export options for PDF, Word, Plain Text, Rich Text Format, EPUB,
   and Pages '09.

3.

   Specify export settings:

but happens to be I can't find the file tab, when I'm in pages and I go to the
tool bar, I start interacting with with it but when I move right or left I
only find the viiew, insert, table, chart, etc.
but as I said I can't find the file tab or menu.
I need help here please.
I'm using latest version of macos high sierra and just downloaded pages few
days ago.

Microsoft Word document. Currently I am working on an older system and
I also changed my file menu so that the that it is more like older
Macintoshes and other systems with a Save / Save As menu items. Also
note that in 97 percent of Macintosh applications the keystrokes are
standardized for Save, Save As, Find, Cut, Copy, Paste undo, redo.

So these keystrokes should work in your applications that are not Web
based applications. (run in Safari).

Enjoy!

I really want to know how to use pages and for this matter I want to
create a document and then export it to .doc but I can’t find the
file tab to do this, most likely I’m going on the wrong way and need
some help here.

Hello folks,
What accessible word processors do you recommend for the mac? This is

Thanks,

The problem of no windows when an app starts

2018-04-05 Thread Eric Oyen
Ok,
I recently acquired a new machine here and it has high Sierra on board. So, I
am getting used to a bunch of new stuff here. However, what I didn’t expect
which was common on my old OS X Lion system was the case of an application
starting, but not producing any windows. In the current case, the application
is Onyx (from titanium software). It appears to start normally, but produces no
windows. Any attempt to interact with the program Bia keyboard is met with a
bonk sound. It also appears to ignore the terminate program command (CMD Q). It
does announce a question “would you like onyx to control your machine”, but no
dialog is visible to voiceover. I have even tried using the application chooser
to find it, but onyx is not visible there either. I have already sent a support
request off to Titanium Software, but don’t expect a response in any reasonable
time.

Anyone got any clues as to how I can work around this?

Thanks,

Eric
