Re: Playing Media Attached to Keynote Presentations

2020-02-07 Thread Steve Matzura

Tim,

Clicker things? Now I'm more than very interested. Please explain.

I've become the de facto audiovisual guy for a group to which I belong
that has a monthly discussion meeting surrounding material in a
PowerPoint slide presentation. Doing this while sitting with my group
and running it wirelessly, either via a Bluetooth keyboard or a clicker
device would make big points with the group leader/facilitator and make
it look like I really know what I'm doing (LOLLOL).

Hi all,

I have some pronunciations set in the dictionary on my iPhone so Voiceover will
pronounce words the way I want instead of how they are spelt. Is there a way of
doing this on the Mac as well?

Thanks in advance,

Writing Documents using Catalina

2020-02-07 Thread Paul Hopewell
Hello,
Many thanks for the suggestions on this. However I am now more confused!

When I worked on software manuals I used a mark up language with notation like….
:h1.Heading textto denote a heading level 1
:h2.Heading test to denote a heading level 2 and so on
:p.to start a new paragraph
:ol. to start an ordered list which is terminated by :eol.
:ul and :eul to denote the start and end of a bulleted list
:li.to denote a list item
and various more complicated mark up tags but the above would do most of what I
need.

I was hoping that there is a similar mark up notation on the Mac. Something
like txt2tags looks like it might do the job as a mark up notation.

Having created my source document using a standard text editor and a suitable
mark up notation I then want a way to convert it to PDF or DOCX to pass onto
others.

I looked at pandoc which seemed to do the above and despite the warnings about
Apple not being able to check it out for malicious software I installed pandoc.
I was hoping to then find some basic help on how to use pandoc but did not see
this. Instead I saw a menu with items like Terminal and Shell and became very
confused.

I also looked at LateC in the Mac App store which was equally confusing as to
what I actually needed to install if I wanted to go the markdown and LateX
route. However that seems more powerful and expensive than I need.

I would appreciate a bit more advice on what to do.
Many thanks … Paul Hopewell

Question about Languages on the Mac Book Air

2020-02-07 Thread Rhanda Hasley
Hi everyone,

Recently I bought a 2019 Mac Book Air and am learning how to use it with
Voiceover. I was wondering about the best ways to ad or switch languages.
Also, does anybody know if Voiceover, either on the Mac Book Air or iPhone,
will read Esperanto?

Thanks much for your assistance, and have a great day.

Rhanda

Re: Outlook On IMac

2020-02-07 Thread Brad Snyder
I agree. The stock Apple Mail app on a Mac is the most VoiceOver accessible
mail app I have used.

While the Microsoft office suite has come along way, and is accessible on a
Mac, it still doesn't compare with the native apple Mac apps.

Re: Vmware Fusion with Linux machines

2020-02-07 Thread 'Janina Sajka' via MacVisionaries
Hi, Tom:

Do you mean Speakup crashes but you're otherwise able to access the vm?
Perhaps by ssh in from a terminal?

Running with current kernels the bug I mentioned hard locks the machine
so only a power restart works. Ctrl+Alt+Delete does nothing.

Sometimes the hard lock can be heard as a syllable or some phoneme being
repeated a couple times per second.

I have no way to understand what might lock the VMware app itself, as
opposed to some machine hosted by VMware. That seems a completely
different issue to me. Not sure how to assess that. It's now been
several years since I ran VMware for my virtual machines.

Best,

Janina

Re: How to stop and start recording within the same file using Quicktime?

2020-02-07 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Hi Jonathan,

Thanks so much for offering to create an automation. When I couldn’t figure out
how to pause and resume in Quicktime, last week, I used Amadeus Pro instead.
It’s worked out really well and is easy to use, so I think I’m going to just
stick with that. Thank you, though.
Cheers,
Donna

iOS 13.4 Beta Reveals 'CarKey' Feature That Would Turn Your iPhone or Apple

Key

not mentioned in the release notes, the iOS 13.4 beta also includes early
signs of an interesting feature that would allow you to use your iPhone or
Apple Watch as a digital car
key.

Namely, the iOS 13.4 beta contains strings of code that reference an unreleased
"CarKey" framework that would enable an iPhone or Apple Watch to lock or unlock
compatible vehicles and start the engine to drive.

"CarKey" would be built into the Wallet app and could be shared with others,
giving them full unlocking and driving capabilities. This promises to be a
really interesting feature and we've got all of the details right here.

refreshed Apple TV with an A12 Bionic chip or newer appears to be in
development,
based on an unreleased model with the codename "T1125" uncovered in this
week's tvOS 13.4

The new Apple TV is expected to sport a faster A12 or A13 chip, while
maintaining a max supported resolution of 4K with HDR. The faster processor
would certainly benefit Apple Arcade gaming and overall performance.

It is unclear if or when the new Apple TV will be released. Apple typically
holds its first media event of a calendar year in March. The current Apple TV
4K model was released in September 2017.
