Can't add bookmarks in latest Safari 15.4

2022-04-19 Thread 'Andrew Lamanche' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

Just wanted to check or ask you to check whether you are able to add new
bookmarks in Safari latest 15.4. I don’t seem to be able to bookmark any pages
at all regardless which OS on my mac I use: Big Sur, Catalina, Monterey: the
same thing happens. Can’t bookmark anything.

Thanks, Andrew

cannot download Vivaldi

2022-04-19 Thread Raymond Foret Jr
To the person who informed me that they use Vivaldi: I tried to download it
but Safari tells me that a secure connection cannot be established to the
server. I did try iCab but my power company doesn’t like that browser and no
matter what identity I try, it doesn’t work. Any others?

Only thing that comes to mind is if command-l has been assigned some other
function by a safari extension or in system preferences keyboard.

there is the option of spectrum access: The catalog is a bit limited but it
works just like the technology in broadway shows but uses smartphones to add

Okay cool. Thanks Herbie. Yeah, I’ve heard the Mac Air is the cheapest Mac you

Hi Mark,

I just tested this out, and I am experiencing the same thing, though not
consistently. I believe this to be a new behavior, so I don’t know if there’s a
solution. One thing I noticed with my brief test was that it seemed to happen
more often when I flipped through my titles then when I use my finger to scroll
down through the screen.

Not sure how helpful this is, but that’s what I found in a two minute test.
Cheers,
Donna

Hi,

I really haven’t messed with some of the other plist files, so can’t know for
sure if they auto-regenerate like the plain old com.apple.safari.plist. You
could, though, copy and paste them onto your Desktop, then delete the ones left
behind in the Preferences folder. If Safari gets cranky, then copy and paste
the ones from the Desktop back into Preferences.

Nice thought, but deleting that file did not do it. Do you think I can safely

Hi Dave,

I am running a bit newer of a MacOS and Safari, but I checked on the iMac on my
desk, which is running Monterey 12.3.1 and Safari 15.4 like you are, and there
are more options than just the two you’ve mentioned. This gives me the
impression that an update may not fix your issue, as there is something messed
with your version of Safari. I suggest that you first quit Safari, then go to
the Finder, and up to the Go menu, then, while holding down the VO keys, go
down to the item named Library. Once the Library folder is open, navigate to
the Preferences folder and find the com.apple.safari.plist item. Trash that
item then re-open Safari. The Preferences that you’ve set in Safari will be
reset and you’ll have to set them up once again. Hopefully, after doing this,
the regular choices are available to you. Also, I recommend that you have
something in the Home Page field, even if it is just www.google.com
. If you’re opening to an Empty page, this won’t cause
you any grief.

Re: Starting Safari Without All Those Tabs/Windows

2022-04-19 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

I apologize for coming in late to the party, so I hope that these suggestions
are not repeats.

First, I am in Monterey Dave, and the list of choices in those menus definitely
has more than two choices. Here’s how I have mine set:

1. Safari opens with: A New page.
A New Page Opens: Home Page.
A New Tab Opens: Empty Page

By default, I believe that Safari is set to open with all tabs and windows that
were open the last time you were in Safari. While tons of people like this, I
do not. I like a blank slate when I come into Safari, then go to History if I
need anything from previous times. So, by setting Safari to open a new page on
startup, and also telling it that new pages always open my Home page, it then
starts with my default Home page every time I open Safari, and Safari does not
take forever rebuilding pages from my last session.

HTH.

Re: VoiceOver stopped working on log in page .

2022-04-19 Thread 'Harry Bell' via MacVisionaries
It is a bug I have known and reported ever since Monterey started with
filevault enabled on an M one Mac. And the solution is to press command and F5
or double tap on the trackpad. Harry

Re: Need to Repair TextEdit on Monterey OS

2022-04-19 Thread Dave Carlson
Herbie,
Yes restarted and shutdown/start a few times, and until the last time, did not
fix. I also Googled the question and found that some .clist files in the
library folder needed to be cleared out. One file with the name
com.apple.textInput.keyboardServices.textReplacement.plist seemed to do the
trick — fingers crossed.

Re: Need to Repair TextEdit on Monterey OS

2022-04-19 Thread Herbie Allen
Have you tried restarting your system? I had this same issue and restarting
fixed it completely. Text edit comes as part of the OS, and I could not find a
way to reinstall the program.
