question about pages and voiceover formatting

2011-06-02 Thread richard watson
Good morning,
I was working in pages last evening with a document which has 2
equally spaced columns on the page. However instead of saying column 1
and column 2, voiceover says page 1 and page 2.
How does one tell the difference between that and say a 2 page
document with just one column.
also how does one announce the font size and attributes in pages.
thanks

If you move the vo cursor from one body text to the next, you can tell that
they are side by side. This is because you don't hear the rap sound,

as you interact with they lay-out area. You have to interact with a page to
 see the header, footer, etc.

Also, it's not clear to me whether or not you imported an external document,
or created it yourself. In any event, you might look in the lay-out
inspector and make sure that the lay-out is set for two columns. If set for
only one, a page break will be inserted instead of a column break.

To hear text attributes, vo-v and left or right arrow.

word processing on the mac

Good morning listers,
I have recently purchased an imac. Thus far I have moved my email to

will move my pc over to it using vmware fusion.
the question is this: what are the most accessible word processing
programs out there. I need some access to doing columns and tables.
Obviously I would like to move this part of my life to mac but wonder
if I've got to keep that part in my windows vm.
I serve a local church as their pastor and am doing bulletins and the like.
btw the church website if you are interested is

thanks for any advice.
I have listen to Mike's mac podcasts on blindcooltech and would like
to hear feedback on my various options.

Finally, while you can't use MS Office for Mac, there is something called
open office that people are successfully using. I don't have much info

pages the program and columns

does pages do that and how accessible is that feature. Such as can I

Are there any free and accessible word processing programs which offer

Re: mac vs jfw

Here's my take as a recent switcher:

Email: There simply isn't a mail client that comes close to Apple Mail for
responsiveness, stability or features. If you are a heavy email user, Mac is
by far your best bet now.

Media: iTunes is great on the Mac, but VLC media player is now pretty useful
as well. In general I find things are more likely to just play on the Mac
than on the PC, and I like the rewind, fast forward etc features in the
 built in player in Safari.

Word Processing: Unless you use styled word documents or need to use word
tables, even Text Edit, the built in word processor, will do much of what
you want, and if not, Open Office Writer is great for creating documents, if
not for reading them, and there are other free word processors that have
many features. I haven't bought i\work at all.

Spreadsheets: Open Office Calc is free and would be easier for you to learn
to use than a modern version of Excel as it still uses menus, unlike the
 other!

Internet: Pros and cons here, it really depends how you use the internet. In
general, I can do the vast majority of things I could in JAWS. Many tasks
are much easier, some a little more keystroke intensive or at least finger
intensive, but there are plenty of sites that are vastly superior in Safari,
particularly anything with dynamic content, something Windows users seem to
moan about a lot, but Mac users don't, because it works so much better for
us! This was actually one of my reasons for switching!

There is no equivalent that is quite as easy to use as Webvisum, but I find
audio Captchas work a lot better for me on Mac than they did on PC!

 considering a mac.

anyone like to give me the pros and cons other than the obvious of price.

Good afternoon,
has anyone used their mac to produce hard copy braille. I currently
use duxbury on my windows xp pc. the old dos version...
and through testing I found that it won't work under windows 7. so
this is something else I'll have to factor into my decision.
thanks
