RE: Anyone else using Apple Pay or an Apple Card?

2024-03-10 Thread sarai.bucciarelli
Apple pay is the collection of cash that builds up from purchases from the
Apple card.
Apple pay is also using the side button to pay for purchases with what ever
credit card or debit card you have linked to your wallet.
My Apple pay is linked to my Apple credit card as default payment..
So when I reload my Starbuks gift card, choose Apple pay as the payment method,
it charges my credit card which is my Apple card in this case.

Some of us keep confusing the Apple Card with Apple Pay. Including me, even
though I technically know the difference. You can use any card with Apple Pay,
or multiple cards, and you don’t kneed to have an Apple Card.

2024-03-04 Thread sarai.bucciarelli
Hi all:

Just put in an Instacart grocery order. Be aware you cannot change quantity
of items in your cart IE add more. You can remove items from cart. There are
also two unlabeled buttons when your on the product in cart.

Work around is to search for the item again. You will hear 1 item in cart
then you can add more.

Hi sarai,

Do report this to them. When I’ve reported things to them in the past they’ve
been very receptive to fixing things so it couldn’t hurt. Does it behave the
same on all devices?

I have a different issue on Venmo I have one former Venmo friend who I can’t
delete for love nor money as the saying goes hahahaha. When I click on them it
gives me an error as though their profile contains nothing so there’s no remove
or delete element to be rid of them. So I have to contact them myself. I’ll be
happy to join you in reporting this issue to them as well.

Take good care,

Robin

All :

Someone asked me to do a Venmo transaction for them since they don’t use it.

Looks like with Voice over, iOS 17.2.1, and Venmo version 10.32.07 you cannot
type in a venmo user in the search field with VO running. Voiceover speaks and
enters in letters and symbols that you are not typing.

You use to be able to dictate in the search field, but if you try, the
information is blank in the search field.

Just an FYI.

Issues with Venmoe and Voiceover

2024-01-18 Thread sarai.bucciarelli
All :

Someone asked me to do a Venmo transaction for them since they don't use it.

Looks like with Voice over, iOS 17.2.1, and Venmo version 10.32.07 you
cannot type in a venmo user in the search field with VO running. Voiceover
speaks and enters in letters and symbols that you are not typing.

You use to be able to dictate in the search field, but if you try, the
information is blank in the search field.

Just an FYI.

Visible Wireless keyboard text entry

2023-12-27 Thread sarai.bucciarelli
Hi all:

So far I'm enjoying Visible wireless. The app is 99% usable. One annoying
issue is with voiceover running when entering in text I've had other
characters enter in that I don't type. Work around is copying and pasting
the majority of text.

I hit a snag. They now have two factor authentication and I cannot type the
code due to text being entered in that is in addition to what I type. You
cannot edit either. I've even tried with a Braille display.

No go.

Has anyone found work arounds?

Subject: After Only One Day, Mark Cancels Disney Plus Subscription

Hello Everyone,

I am posting this to the list because I want you to know that, if you encounter
the same problem, you are not alone.

1.
I purchased a Disney Plus and Hulu Premium monthly subscription via the Disney
Plus website. I did this because this particular new pricing bundle is not
available on the Hulu website.

2.
Signed into Disney Plus and Hulu websites, along with iOS app and iPad app
without any problems.

3.
Signed into Disney Plus app on Apple TV on both TV OS 16 and TV OS 17 without
any problems.

4.
Could not sign into Hulu app on Apple TV. Trust me when I tell you that this
is not a VoiceOver problem.
When attempting to sign into Hulu app via a Disney Plus Hulu bundle
subscription, billed by Disney, with a new account that is not being upgraded
from a basic Hulu subscription, the Hulu app simply freezes.
I spent more time on trying to resolve this issue than I ever care to admit.

5.
When a solution to this problem was not offered up by Hulu / Disney, I got so
disgusted that I cancelled my subscription, today, and deleted my third-party
Disney Plus account.

This is the first time in my Apple life that I have been so disgusted with an
app experience that I cancelled and deleted within 24 hours of purchasing a
subscription.

6.
There are several things I can do to get the Hulu app working on Apple TV but,
to my mind, today, at least, I just can't be bothered as, for a premium
experience, I would have to pay more money for a bundle feature that I will
never use and pay for it, via the Hulu billing system.

No Doubt that Disney will be releasing a new Hulu / Disney app combo that will
resolve this but, as for me, my first experience with Hulu via Apple TV was so
very disappointing that I have lost the desire to even use Hulu.

Now I can subscribe to Hulu via iTunes but, again, not today.

Mark

your installment balance.

Okay, if you want to make a payment on a specific device go to the Apple Card.
Click on the more button. Swipe until you hear monthly installments. Click
on the device, name in question, and click pay early.

RE: Apple Cash

2023-11-01 Thread sarai.bucciarelli
Okay, Apple pay is using your wallet app to pay for something. Apple cash is an
option in your wallet to pay for an item.
You double tap side button and swipe to Apple cash as a payment options. Double
tap to pick it.. or choose another option to pay.

What’s the difference between Apple Cash and Apple pay? today I tried to pay
for something in a store using Apple Pay and it came up saying that my balance
for Apple Cash was zero. I didn’t have any trouble with my card so it wasn’t
that. what was going on there? I want to be able to use Apple Pay without that
kind of interference as I have in the past.

Tibor,

Just wondering why you want an Ultra 2? They are much more expensive, and
unless you engage in extreme sports or activities such as mountain climbing, I
personally don’t see any reason to spend that kind of money. The Ultra is
designed to withstand very severe weather conditions. Unless that’s something
you need, a series 9 would probably suit you just fine. It would certainly be
a nice upgrade from a series 4.

Just my $.02, as one who will never spend the money on an Ultra.
Cheers,
Donna

Subject: A Big Hello and General Personal Apple-Related Updates from Mark

Hello Everyone,

First, I am posting this to both lists because I know that a couple of
questions I have can be answered by experts on either list.

Second, Happy Independence Day for those of us in the US.

1.
So I finally decided to give Apple One a try. I have been resistant to it
because I do not need all of the features included in the plan but, quite
frankly, the billing is better when bundled. I have to admit that being able
to read the lyrics of songs that are playing, in Apple Music, is very, very
nice. Here is a question: Is it possible to place VoiceOver focus such that
as the lyric being sung is automatically read out by VO?

2.
With regard to Apple Fitness Plus: Any suggestions as to how best to get
started using the features in conjunction with my Apple Watch?

3.
Today, for the first time, I finally added a second card to Apple Pay. I must
say that I am extremely relieved that selecting the non-default card, at time
of purchase, is so easy. I had been reluctant to add a second card, for just
that reason.

4.
Since I now have access to TV Plus, I guess I will give some of these,
apparently, excellent new series a try. I am looking forward to watching
Highjacked and Silo.

5.
I was just thinking that all of my interaction with the world, in terms of
technology, is done via Apple products; accept for my two remaining hardworking
and beloved PCs; one that is still running Windows 7 The Windows 7 PC is not
connected to the internet.

6.
Now don't get me wrong, I love my Android devices but I cannot imagine using
them as a primary means of navigating my life.

7.
Although a day late and a dollar short, with regard to the thread that asked
about good WIFI routers, I prefer Linksys routers and range extenders. In
fact, I purchased 2 new range extenders for my home, just last week. I was
delighted to discover that when you connect to these devices, for the first
time, on an iOS device, the device's built-in web interface automatically
launches, prompting you for the required info. Very, very, impressive. In
fact, now that I think about it, these new devices can tell you when they are
in the best location, relative to other Linksys devices, on the same network.
How wonderful technology can be; and the best part? We have only scratched the
surface on all that is to come.

Finally, I hope you are all doing well and I do hope you will reply to this
thread reporting your own personal Apple-related updates, also.

Mark

RE: weird issue with capitalone 365 and voiceover

That is what I don’t get.

I have no idea how to resolve and their CSR won’t either. There is only one
capitalone Mobile app, right?

I also tried with my CapitalOne app with a few different transfers between
accounts and I'm not experiencing this issue.

All:

I have an iPhone 13 Pro max running iOS 16.3.1.

Capitalone Mobile app version 5.109.1.

Issue is with Voiceover running, I cannot transfer money to and from an
external account to any of my Capitalone accounts. If voiceover is off, a
sighted person can select the external account and it works fine. Web site
works fine. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled the app. Tried screen recognition,
etc.

Repro steps:

1. Log in to Capitalone mobile app.
2. Double tap an account from the list.
3. Double tap transfer.
4. On from account, double tap the external account at the end of the list
under heading external accounts.
5. When you are returned to the screen notice it chose the last account in
the capitalone list.

Hi all:

I use Directv Stream with my Apple TV. Love the service.. hate the price

now $70. Ridiculous.

So, Does anyone have another streaming service they like that is cheaper
than $70 and works on Apple tv pretty easily?

ring app issues

2022-10-24 Thread sarai.bucciarelli
Hi all:

I'm running iOS 15.7 with Ring app version 5.54.0. I'm having no issues with
Ring and Voiceover.

A friend has iOS 16.1, and ever since iOS 16 his Ring app, same version will
not read anything but the hamburger menu with Voiceover. He's Reinstalled
the Ring app. We are trying to figure out if this is on Apple's end or
Ring's.? I'm suspecting Apple.

RE: I need an accessible thermostat

2022-10-12 Thread sarai.bucciarelli
Well, I narrowed down to the Sensi and the Amazon Smart Thermostat.

Almost went for the Sensi, but there were a lot of complaints about difficulty
connecting to routers. Not sure if it was lack of knowledge or if we have an
issue with the device. I figure I can start out cheap and upgrade later.

Hi, I actually just went through this process. I chose the Emerson Sensi ST55.
It is a smart thermostat that will connect to Alexa and home kit. I decided on
this model because of the favorable reviews and it has physical buttons. I’m
hoping it is the best of both worlds.

Yes, you can control it via the iOS app. Some buttons are labled weirdly, but
useable. I have found the scheduling to be a little challenging, but I think
I’ll be able to do it. Honestly though, I like the simplicity of changing my
temp on the fly. Here is a link that describes the commands you can use with
Amazon Alexa for the thermostat.

Where I live, I have very good fiber, Internet service, that rarely goes out,
so this has really never been an issue for me. whenever there is a loss of
connectivity, my wife is able to access the thermostat through the touchscreen
interface on the unit. I believe this would be the case with any smart
thermostat, unless, of course, you find one with an internal voice interface.

Not sure about accessing the thermostat using Siri, but the thermostat does

For the Ecobee owners, Can you adjust if the wifi goes down?

Also, is there an auto setting for heat/cool so once the temp reaches a certain

So I see Amazon has the 2022 version on their site.

For the Ecobee owners, Can you adjust if the wifi goes down?

Also, is there an auto setting for heat/cool so once the temp reaches a certain
degree heat or air will automatically come on? Can you turn off the system if
you want to open windows?

RE: I need an accessible thermostat

2022-10-12 Thread sarai.bucciarelli
I’ve narrowed to the Ecobeee, Amazon smart Thermostat, or a Sensi. Sensi has
buttons and no touch screen. Amazon smart thermostat is $40 and runs with Alexa
app. No skills to enable.

Brad,

How is it that you continue to have access to the thermostat when your wifi
goes out? I live in a rural area, and we have the worst wifi in the world, so
if you can really do that, it would be a huge motivator to switch. Also, can
you control the Honeywell thermostat with Siri?

Cheers,

Donna

Mark,
In terms of your Lighting port, it is probably lint in the port. If you bring
it to the Apple store, they can take a pair of tweezers and remove the material
blocking the Lighting port. This happened to me about two months before my
iPhone 6S went for a swim in the Potomac River. (Well, I went for that swim too
and was in the ER 30 minutes later.
I've been thinking about providing shortcuts for VOiceOver Macintosh users that
can be used with Siri and/or Voice Control. There was a good discussion on the
Automaker's podcast this week about how OmniGroup has a set of Voice Control
scripts for nearly all parts of their OmniFocus project tracking software.
That discussion can be found at:
https://www.google.com/url?sa=t=j==s=web==rja=8=2ahUKEwj6gebo0LX5AhXSEGIAHcnwC94QFnoECA0QAQ=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.relay.fm%2Fautomators%2F107=AOvVaw2WsWJTJ233Lt5REw4SztTX

Today, I just finished a shortcut to save safari web pages to the desktop which
is essentially the AppleScript I mentioned recently on this list wrapped in a
shortcut. I'll be doing some testing and then will share with the group.

Best wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

Hello Everyone,

Just wanted to check in with everyone and wish you all a happy Apple
accessibility summer. I cannot believe that August 2022 is already underway.

You know, it's kind of funny, I use my Apple devices more and more and yet I
have less and less to say about them as they continue to get better and better.
 (smile)

A few things that I have been intending to post but have not:

1.
In addition to my wired EarPods, I now use both AirPods, third gen, and Airpods
Pro, on a regular basis. While I would have to say that my Airpods Pro offer
better sound quality, I like the Airpods third gen, because they offer an
easier / lighter listening experience. I know that sounds crazy but, for me,
it is true.

2.
My poor old 8 Plus is truly on its last legs. The lightening port can no
longer hold a cable, unassisted. This is to say, in order for me to keep a
cable inserted, the phone must be on a horizontal plain or the cable will fall
out. I do use a wireless charger with it but . I am going to try to make it
last until the next iPhone release which, hopefully, will offer some form of
touch ID. However, If touch ID is not included in the next release I will
either purchase the biggest best new phone or I will get an S E. One way or
another, my beloved 8 Plus is on its way out (smile.)

3.
My iPad 10.5 2017 is going strong; it runs like a champ. However, I am
definitely going to get a new MacBook Pro after I purchase my next iPhone.
I have a MacBook Air, M1, in the house but I really don't like the fact that it
automatically powers on at the touch of any key. This is quite annoying.

4.
As for software? I find that I am using fewer and fewer apps. I am not sure
why.

All of the apps that allow me to easily manage my finances continue to be my
favorite apps, of course. However the Amazon apps continue to be at the top of
my must have list. I noticed some kind of a glitch between VoiceOver and Alexa
on an iPhone 11, the other day. Interesting as this glitch does not occur on
my beloved 8 Plus. My solution? Delete and then reinstall the Alexa app.

Pill Reminder, My Chart, CA Lottery, and Yelp also head-up my favorite apps
list, these days. Of course, I am omitting all of the native Apple apps as
their significance to my accessible life is unparalleled

While I continue to be a big fan of Twitter, for some reason, the app, and the
service itself, for that matter, feel less streamline and unencumbered, these
days. Just my opinion, of course.

Uber, Lift, and Insta Cart are amazing, as always.

And of course, all of the book reading apps remain dear to my heart.

While I would love to list some games that I enjoy on either iOS or iPad OS,
alas, I cannot. I do not know of any onboard (not requiring an internet
connection) VoiceOver accessible card games and / or board games; a sad
reality, to be sure.

All replies to this post are welcome and, in fact, greatly appreciated.

I hope this finds you all happy and well.

Trying Frndly tv

2022-05-29 Thread sarai.bucciarelli
Hi guys:

Well I'm on my 7 day trial of Frendly tv.

Testing on Apple TV and iPhone 13 pro Max. comparing it to the Directv Now
Stream app that I already have.

So Directv Now is more like a live cable subscription, allowing you to flip
between live tv channels. Its more user friendly than Frndly TV.

Frndly tv is usable. The guide is really hard to figure out, and you do not
know what channel is playing until you tap a show. Its also hard to tell
what day your on in the guide.

The on demand section is usable. Again, not knowing what channel your
playing until you click a show.

The DVR section is so far accessible. I was able to schedule a few shows to
record. The search feature is probably going to be how to access the
channels accessibly. Type in the name of the channel you want, click it from
the results then watch live button. Might be the easiest way to go here.

Customer service did respond to my email about accessibility improvements,
so that is a plus. The show names are readable with Voiceover.

I chose the $89.99 a year classic plan. Cheaper per year than the $8.99
monthly. I will decide by next Sunday if I want to keep it.

RE: A bit of personal news

2022-04-04 Thread sarai.bucciarelli
That’s awesome. I’d love to hear how it goes. Goood luck.

From: 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Sent: Monday, April 4, 2022 4:42 PM
To: 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Subject: OT: A bit of personal news

Hi all,

Warning, this is a little long. I’ve debated whether or not to share this with
the list, but I’ve known many of you in this community for a long time now, so
I thought I would, since it could potentially be of interest to others here who
have my same visual condition. If you don’t want to read, feel free to hit the
delete key. :)

Last fall, , National Public Radio did a story about a clinical trial that was
being conducted using a new gene editing technique called CRISPR to treat
Liber’s Congenital Amaurosis, which is the condition that caused my blindness.
Being an inquisitive sort, I decided to try and find out more. My cousin who
works in genetics was able to track down the study, and I subsequently
volunteered to be a participant.

The whole story is long, but here’s a synopsis. I went to Portland OR in
November, where they had to do a genetic panel to make sure I was a match for
the specific genetic mutation that they’re studying. Shortly before Christmas,
I received the news that I am in fact a match, and that I had been accepted for
participation in the trial. There followed a fair amount of pre-surgery stuff,
such as having a congenital cataract removed in order to give the surgeon
better access to my retina. But all that is now done, and I leave on Wednesday
for Portland. The procedure will be performed on April 12.

Crispr is pretty amazing stuff. It has a lot of promise in a wide variety of
applications that could make many people’s lives better. My layperson’s
explanation of it is that they will turn a tiny bot armed with scissors loose
in my retina. The bots’ job will be to cut out the malfunctioning area of the
gene and mend it, so that the gene starts to produce the necessary proteins to
send visual information to the brain. Over time, this is expected to produce a
gradual improvement in my vision. For a more medically based explanation, you
can check out this link: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41587-020-0493-4.

I know that we all have different feelings about the “cure.” As for me
personally, I have never sought it out. In fact, many who know me were
surprised that I volunteered for the trial—to some extent, including myself. I
do have some vision, and I do use the vision that I have, so I wouldn’t say no
to any improvement, should that be the outcome. But my primary motivation for
volunteering was to help further the science, and whatever my personal outcome,
I’m excited to be a part of that. So far, none of the participants has had
reason to go out and buy a new car, so, my expectation is that, while I may see
better, the overall picture of my life won’t change that much.

Though I do experience moments when I wonder if I’m certifiably insane for
letting someone take a pair of pruning shears to my genes, I’m optimistic and
excited at the prospect of leaving this legacy for others who have LCA.

If you’ve read all this, thanks for reading. It is not currently my plan to
send updates to the list, because it is off-topic and will not be of interest
to everyone. But if you want to be updated, let me know, and I can email you
privately.

Cheers,

Donna

After pairing your watch with your new iPhone, you will need to go to the Watch
app on your new iPhone, and enable the ability to unlock your watch with your
iPhone again.

Since this setting is device specific, you need to do this every time you get a
new iPhone, or unpair and then re-pair your watch.

Hi,

With respect to the physical SIM card, that sounds like a random case. I
suspect that something just happened to the old one during the transfer.
Possibly some static charge, or just bad luck. I had no issues putting my SIM
card from my old iPhone into my 13.

Now, for the Apple Watch. Does the watch seem all connected when you use the
Watch app on your new iPhone? That is, does it show as a paired watch? Can
you see all the settings configured on the watch? When you paired it to the
new iPhone, did it ask you for Apple ID passwords, iPhone PIN etc? These all
must be answered affirmatively in order that you get a secure and proper
connection between the iPhone and the Apple Watch. Lastly, if you go to
Settings, Your name on the iPhone, does it say if there are any extra Apple ID
steps that are needed to be completed?

Later…

2021-11-14 Thread sarai.bucciarelli
Hi all:

Just purchased a 13 Pro Max. Let me tell you, transferring the data from my
8Plus is a pain. Took me forever to line up the pairing circles. Wish VO
would give haptick feedback when you are lining them up. So far, I like the
13 pro max.

RE: apple wallet and apple card help

2021-10-18 Thread sarai.bucciarelli
Nope.. so to resolve this.. you have to close the credit card account with the
bank, then re-apply under the Apple id you want to use. BTw its best to use
your iCloud ID for the Apple card.

I would expect they are both the same account.

Hi,

I’ve never use the touchscreen part of the device. I put up on the wall and
connected up all the wires and got it all working.

I did it last summer, so I can’t actually remember if I needed any help
configuring it or not.

When I turned it on this spring, I didn’t have to do anything to connect up the
app just worked.

It also will work with HomeKit, but I tend not to use it that way.

I just added a second program the other day. It works just fine.

Phillo or Sling TV

2021-06-13 Thread sarai.bucciarelli
Hi All:

I'm thinking of switching from ATT TV streaming which is usable on Apple TV
over iphone. to either Phillo or Sling.

ATT went up on price and Phillo and Sling are cheaper. I'd use on my Apple
TV, phone, or my future Roku. So which do you guys like better? Which is
more usable?

I’ve noticed, not really with the short text portion of the app, but the exact
same thing you’re describing with the barcode option. It seems to be really
quirky when trying to scan for a barcode, then when it finally detects it, it
displays the “text not recognized” message. So at this point, I either just use
the short text option and try to ID the item as best I can, or if I need
directions read to me, I just call an Aira agent and have them read them to me.

RE: question for anyone who uses the Starbucks app, can you view your card balance?

2020-04-29 Thread sarai.bucciarelli
Open the app.

Locate the scan tab on the bottom and double tap.

Bring your finger half way down screen until you hear payments you can scan in
store adjustable.

Flick down with one finger and you will hear the card name and balance.

Sarai,

It sounds like I’m doing what you’re describing, but I must be missing
something.. When I see the Payments you can Scan In Store, I flick up, and Vo
reads my card numbers then immediately collapses it back down again. Can you
explain your gestures in more detail?

Thanks,

Hi Jonathan,

when I Click on Scan In Store,, I see the following:

My star balance

Link Another in-store payment

Payments You can Scan in Store

Vo says that Payments you Can Scan in Store is adjustable. Tapping it does
nothing, but if I flick up, VO speaks my card number followed by Manage/Add
Funds, but then quickly reverts back to the Payments You can scan in Store
prompt, not allowing me to activate the Manage/Add funds button. You're not
seeing that behavior? Are you running IOS 13.4.1?

Cheers,

Donna

I’ve had this issue with my Watch running watchOS 6, but not with my iPhone.
My watch is definitely set to mute but it rings whenever there is a call. Very
frustrating. Not sure what, if anything, I can do about it.

Hey Sarai. Is it possible that you have emergency bypass on for your contacts?
With Emergency Bypass on, Any calls or text messages from contacts who you've
set it up to work with will bypass the mute setting. Hope that helps and hope
everybody had a merry Christmas.

Anyone got any reason why someone from outside the usA couldn’t apply for these
roles?

Dear NFB List Members,

This summer we began a partnership with Apple.  Right now they are offering
Technical Support Adviser jobs in Sacramento, CA and Austin, TX.  We are
taking the unprecedented step of sending this out to everyone on NFBNET in
order to assure that the largest number of blind persons possible apply to
these jobs.  One of my selling points to Apple was that most blind people have
iPhones and other i-devices and have become experts in using them.  I would
venture to say that this is one career in which blind people can perform better
than sighted ones.  If you agree and have the skills Apple needs, please
apply.  After you apply, please email (Ms.) Shay Shimizu, Apple Talent
Sourcer, so she can make sure you are in the system and stay in touch with you
(and me). Apple really wants to hire blind people.

Best wishes,
Dick Davis, Chair
