You showed up as Bill in this thread. I believe however that Mail takes the
Full name from contacts application and uses that for what is displayed by
default in its mail application.
take a look at menu view->Messages->"view all headers and see how that
presents your name.

You need to do this in Googlegroups on the web. Go to macvisionaries page and
look for the button that says “my settings’. I usually use item chooser for
this. There you can adjust your email settings, and somewhere you should find
your nickname or the name displayed.

As I go through my message list I notice that e-mail I’ve sent is attributed to
“William Gallik.” Now, true, that is my given name but it’s so darn formal and
I’d prefer that “Bill Gallik” appear as the source of origin. Certainly, my
signature tags and the return e-mail address is labeled
