No. But so what? What matters to a company at the end of the day is the bottom

Hello Anders,

Well, it's been quite some time since I last held the Samsung Mega and you must
remember that, at that time, iPhone 5 S was the latest Apple device on the
market. Relative to that, I would say that the Mega was about the size of an
old 8 track tape or, as another list member suggested, a little larger than an
old VHS video cartridge; much thinner, of course. It was huge!!! (smile) Ah,
the memories. (smile).

Hello Everyone,

Let me just say that the following is just my opinion and it is not
intended to persuade or dissuade anyone of anything.

Yesterday, I went to a remote Best Buy retail store where, as I
expected, there were almost no customers.

The Apple section was completely deserted except for one very
enthusiastic Apple representative.

Although I had not fully recognized it myself, some part of me really
wanted to be wowed by the 10 S Max in terms of its 6.5 inch display
size. As you may recall, I have often stated that I am not ready for
Face ID yet, I discovered that I was somewhat open to purchasing a 10
S Max if it could wow me, enough.

Five years or so ago, I had a friend who owned one of the first modern
phablets, the Samsun Mega. I believe the screen size was 6.3 inches.
Its physical size was so large that every time I used it, I felt as
though I was a little kid playing with a grown-up's device. I just
couldn't stop grinning, every time I held it in my hand.

It was huge Yet, despite its size, I really, really liked it. It
felt, just as the term phablet implies, like a cross between a phone
and a tablet computer.

Believe it or not, I found myself finding ways to spend more time with
my friend just so I could play with that Samsung Mega. (smile)

I almost bought one for myself but, at that time, I just didn't like
Android enough to make the investment. Soon after, Samsung stopped making the
Mega.

So, yesterday, as I entered the Apple section of the store, I suppose,
on some subconscious level, I was hoping to see that same huge
form-factor on the 10 S Max. It didn't happen. In fact, believe it
or not, the actual body, or form-factor of the 10 S Max is almost identical to
my 8 Plus.

I was so disappointed. I was so disappointed, in fact, that the Apple
sales rep thought that I had taken ill and asked if I needed medical attention.

Now I know that Apple made it clear as to the physical dimensions of
the 10 S Max but, somehow, some way, I thought the form-factor would
be larger, much larger than my beloved 8 Plus. In fact, I suppose, I
was counting on it.

The sales rep, a very nice young man, began his spiel about how much
better the display is and how much faster the 10 S Max is, and blah, blah,
blah!.

I'mpretty sure they're only thinking of money money money!

The company use to make excelant products,
They now make good products,

I personally think they have lost their way slightly but I also think they
need to drop prices to bring things back into the real world,

They don't need to make money like they use to.
They're already worth trillions

I should have my watch in my hands tomorrow. Excited about it, one of the only
apple things I can be excited about anyways.
Mark I remember that phone loved it. I prefer bigger devices myself, and I want
them to feel big. My mom was kind of upset when she noticed that her x max was
pretty much the same size as her 8plus she had. I use to have a note myself and
loved the fact that it took up a fair bit of space. Putting your phone in your
back pocket um that's not me.
My phone is normally in my front pocket or in a clip. I can't ever recall
putting my phone in my back pocket.

I should have my watch in my hands tomorrow. Excited about it, one of
the only apple things I can be excited about anyways.
Mark I remember that phone loved it. I prefer bigger devices myself,
and I want them to feel big. My mom was kind of upset when she noticed
that her x max was pretty much the same size as her 8plus she had. I
use to have a note myself and loved the fact that it took up a fair
bit of space. Putting your phone in your back pocket um that's not me.
My phone is normally in my front pocket or in a clip. I can't ever
recall putting my phone in my back pocket.

On Friday I was comparing the se with 6s as I wanted to make sure of some facts

Yeah Mark I was trying to get my hands on one today to have a look at but no
retail store in my city has a demo version yet and none of them have real
devices out for the public to view.

Also with the 749 NZ dollar price, I might wait 6 months and see what happens
incase they bring the LTE model out here in NZ,
Currently there is no word but they didn't have the series 3 model NZ mobile
providers don’t' want to have these second devices for some reason.

And here's another take on the Apple Watch. I'm eagerly awaiting my Series 4.
But I'm still sporting a Series 1, and it's so slow as to almost be more of a
hinderance than a help. So, for me the display size had nothing to do with the
purchase decision. I want the power and speed, which I'm sure will be a big
improvement over my series 1. I did think about saving some money and getting
a series 3, but I figured it would just become slow that much faster, so
decided to spend the money for the 4.
Cheers,

Hi Mark,

Yeah I have had a plus sized phone before, it ws the 7+.

I'm total so didn't get the increased resolution screen size,
But it was a good size for the keyboard and my big fingers

However I'm now use to the X and found it more difficult to type on the XS Max,

But a real reason for me to not update is the pricing of the devices here in NZ,
The XS 256 GB device is 2200 nZ dollars
The prices just go up majorily from there.

Hello Simon,

You make an excellent point.

You know, I do like to watch old episodes of the Twilight Zone and Star Trek on
my 8 Plus. I can enjoy the video easily enough, most of the time. Yesterday,
I had the sales person play a few videos and, no doubt because of my poor
vision, I did not really notice an increase in frame size. Doubtless a sighted
person would definitely notice the increase in display quality but to me, it
was undetectable. The display would have to be much larger in order for me to
find it easier to see.

so much better design. You don’t need a honking big thing to get a nice large
display these days. I think that is to be cheered not lamented. How did your
friend Carrie that monster? Surely, it did not fit into a pocket. My regret is
that Apple has apparently abandoned the people who like a smaller form factor.
Enough is enough already. Just my opinion. Smile.

RE: Mark on iPhone 10 S Max and iWatch Series 4, Form-Factor

2018-09-22 Thread M. Taylor
Donna,

You are going to absolutely adore your series 4. Other than its size, I was
amazed at how much faster it appeared to function, in the short time that I
played with it, than even the Series 2.

Hello Mary,

Actually, she, my friend that is, carried the Samsung Mega in her purse. As it
turned out, she sold it because it proved to be too large for her hands.

RE: Mark on iPhone 10 S Max and iWatch Series 4, Form-Factor

2018-09-22 Thread Simon Fogarty
I thought the same way until I actually got to look at the new devices
yesterday and all I can say is that they are simply the same feel to that of
the likes of the 7 and 7+.

They really or at least to me don't feel that large,
But yet the increased screen size isn't something we the blind can use due to
it being more of a visual increase rather than a physical increase.
The edge to edge would be great if you were watching videos etc

Mark on iPhone 10 S Max and iWatch Series 4, Form-Factor

2018-09-22 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Everyone,

Let me just say that the following is just my opinion and it is not intended
to persuade or dissuade anyone of anything.

Yesterday, I went to a remote Best Buy retail store where, as I expected,
there were almost no customers.

The Apple section was completely deserted except for one very enthusiastic
Apple representative.

Although I had not fully recognized it myself, some part of me really wanted
to be wowed by the 10 S Max in terms of its 6.5 inch display size. As you
may recall, I have often stated that I am not ready for Face ID yet, I
discovered that I was somewhat open to purchasing a 10 S Max if it could wow
me, enough.

Five years or so ago, I had a friend who owned one of the first modern
phablets, the Samsun Mega. I believe the screen size was 6.3 inches. Its
physical size was so large that every time I used it, I felt as though I was
a little kid playing with a grown-up's device. I just couldn't stop
grinning, every time I held it in my hand.

It was huge Yet, despite its size, I really, really liked it. It felt,
just as the term phablet implies, like a cross between a phone and a tablet
computer.

Believe it or not, I found myself finding ways to spend more time with my
friend just so I could play with that Samsung Mega. (smile)

I almost bought one for myself but, at that time, I just didn't like Android
enough to make the investment. Soon after, Samsung stopped making the Mega.

So, yesterday, as I entered the Apple section of the store, I suppose, on
some subconscious level, I was hoping to see that same huge form-factor on
the 10 S Max. It didn't happen. In fact, believe it or not, the actual
body, or form-factor of the 10 S Max is almost identical to my 8 Plus.

I was so disappointed. I was so disappointed, in fact, that the Apple sales
rep thought that I had taken ill and asked if I needed medical attention.

Now I know that Apple made it clear as to the physical dimensions of the 10
S Max but, somehow, some way, I thought the form-factor would be larger,
much larger than my beloved 8 Plus. In fact, I suppose, I was counting on
it.

The sales rep, a very nice young man, began his spiel about how much better
the display is and how much faster the 10 S Max is, and blah, blah, blah!.

All I know is that, when I closed my eyes, I couldn't tell the 10 S Max from
my beloved 8 Plus.

As for the Apple watch? Same scenario. If there is any major size
difference, I couldn't detect it to the point where I wanted to buy a new
watch.

Now I realize that Apple is simply increasing the size of its displays
without increasing the physical form-factors but, for me, this is kind of a
let-down. I'm not exactly sure why this is so; perhaps, for me at least,
it's the marvelous memory of that Samsung Mega that, for better or worse,
set a form-factor size standard to which, one day, I hope to return.

Mark
