I find that Western digital drives last an average of 18 months so I have
switched to Seagate drives for backing up files.

choose an appropriate product. You could start
SSD are better of course and you can find pretty good deals on amazon.
It really depends on how many back ups you want to save on that drive,
and of couse the amount of storage space you need. You can find a 4 tb
ssd external on amazon for 220 to 260.

Any drive I think should work.
SSD drives are more expensive so I would for the economy go for a mechanical
drive.
