The description page for HomePod indicates that friends connected to your home wifi can play music through your HomePod, so I suspect you’ll be okay to stream to the HomePod, but you may wish to use your main iPhone for the setup to ensure access to your calendar, messages and mail.

Hi all, I was just listening to David would bridges podcast where he set up his HomePod. And of course he was in the home app. I have an iPhone 7 Plus which is no longer acting as a phone, since it doesn’t have a Sim card in it, although it will do Wi-Fi calling as long as it’s on the Wi-Fi
