Re: Parler Social in Safari accessibility
HI Eric, I’ve tried to contact them via the usual web form, which may not be very effective. And then I thought I’d ask all my followers on Twitter to contact Parler as well. To my surprise many have done so. So if other visually impaired people are on Twitter and care about Parler in view of the increasing censorship by Twitter, please ask your followers to petition Parler developers not to exclude us. Unless we put pressure on them, nothing will be done. It’s often about numbers. Re: Parler Social in Safari accessibility
Well, They need to have the audio alternative captcha available for a start. Then they need to setup the page similar to the look (although not the feel) of either Facebook or twitter (both of which I find rather easy to get around in these days). Now, as for their app, it’s going to have to be massively corrected. All buttons properly labeled, all edit boxes fully accessible regardless of screen reader mode, an audio alternative captcha to also be made available, etc. Also, any and all other form controls, popup boxes, picker items, etc to be made fully accessible and fully tested. Yes, I know, it’s a lot of work, but these guys need to know that we are a growing population class on the web and our voices carry weight now. You might want to inform them that the entirety of the disabled population inside the US represents slightly more than $185 Billion annually and that this figure is growing. The blind alone represent nearly 3/5ths of that figure (because of our influence with friends, families, associates and their friends). So, to that end, we, as a class, represent a non-trivial percentage of the overall population and also represent a very substantial spending base. Re: Parler Social in Safari accessibility
Hi Eric, I asked sighted assistance to go past the captcha both in Safari and in Parler iphone app. There’ are huge accessibility issues with the mobile app in that lots of buttons and tabs are not labelled. In safari, I’ve managed to find some people to follow and even send some posts but it’s very hit and miss. I do hope the developers are going to be receptive or else we will be locked out of Parler altogether. Andrew > On 22 Jun 2020, at 03:04, Eric Oyen wrote: > > I gave up on it because of the captcha. Re: Parler Social in Safari accessibility
That would be fabulous. Their mobile app is not very accessible either. most buttons and tabs are unlabelled. I think I may have an inside contact for Parler that I'm going to reach out to. I'll keep everyone posted. Re: Parler Social in Safari accessibility
I gave up on it because of the captcha. I have no visual help here. There have been numerous attempts by me to contact the company that created the Parler network, but all they have are online forms that also use a visual only captcha. Seriously, for a social network that wants everyone to join, they are doing a good job of locking out the blind. Btw, I tried on chrome, safari, Firefox and even Microsoft edge on windows. No way around the captcha and the app isn’t helpful on the iPhone either as a captcha is required there too. g. -Eric > On Jun 21, 2020, at 3:23 AM, 'Andrew Lamanche' via MacVisionaries > wrote: > > Hi, > > Does anyone use Parler Social on the mac via safari? i’ve just signed up to > it but it’s really hard to use.
