No. I have no issue with .dmg distributions. I simply mount the dmg file
and rsync over to /Applications.
My last experience of this came Monday when I had to install Microsoft
Teams from a link I received in email just as the meeting was starting.
I didn't have time to do anything but defaults.
Are you first putting the app in the Apps folder before running setup?

I've noticed my Mac Mini has begun defaulting to using my external
Thunderbolt storage drive whenever I install something new. This is most
definitely not my preference.
Anyone able to help me reset to more standard locations? I'd most
grateful.
