Hi Stacey, In el capitan go to system preferences and the "notifications" section then find the table with all your apps. find drop box in the table and stop interacting with the apps table. Now find the appropriate check boxes in each of the 3 "tabs" and turn off what you don't want to bother

I’m not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but you can use the Application Chooser menu with VO-F1 twice and you will find a menu for System Dialogs there. You can open them and simply VO-space on the Close button. Sometimes, depending on the nature of the dialog, the Window Chooser, VO-F2

Maybe I am not seeing this because I interact with the Dropbox folder in Finder. The only time I need touch the app in menu extras is if I need to close down the app. I have seen dialogues that appear not to be workable and if I cannot get rid it, a restart does it. From E.T.'s Keyboard...
