If you can wait a little for reports on how your music tools work with the new
M1 devices, one of the just released Mac Mini systems may well suit your needs.
Performance reviews have been impressive so far - and I've read reviews from
several sources.

Janina,
I think I have that same Apple hub, with three USB-A, one HDM, one SD, one
RJ-xx, and yes one USB-C slot. There’s another slot that might be for a smaller
memory card, but not sure. I’ve also encountered times where I need to move my
USB-A device from one port to another to get it to “wa

That was actually my initial reaction to your email, i.e. a typo.

Thanks for this info, Brad. I was frankly surprised by the behavior I'm
seeing since the hub I have is genuine Apple bought directly from Apple.
Go figure.
I'm connected to the Mini over what appears to be USB-C. The hub gives
me several ports, including USB-A and HDMI.
I wonder whether it matter
Janina Is correct.
My earlier statement that the Mac mini had a 10/100 ethernet port was incorrect.

Janina,
That is disappointing to hear that devices connected to your USB hub do not
automatically reconnect on reboot.
I have the exact same Mac mini as you, and I am using a Belkin USB hub
purchased from the Apple store, and I do not experience this issue with the
Belkin hub.

There's an option for 10Gbps connector, as I recall from when I was
shopping last spring.

Hi, Steve:
Janina here ...
I purchased a fully loaded Mac Mini earlier this calendar year and I'm
generally quite pleased with it. I added a BT keyboard to my order, and
it's the keyboard I use most often though I have also added the Mini to
my USB based KVM. The KVM also works well with a simple
As I recall, running virtualized Linux instances on ARM-based Mac hardware has
been demonstrated publicly by Apple. Running Linux natively (i.e., without Mac
OS underneath it) isn't yet supported, and I don't know whether it will be, due
to the Apple-specific hardware involved.

Hi!
Speaking of hombrew.
Is any linux version developed for the arm family like the M1?
Especially Debian is interesting to me as I would love to have a Mac where I
can run Debian on a separate partition.

My late 2013 model MacBook Pro can run Big Sur, but it’s among the oldest
devices capable of doing so. It may not be compatible with next year’s release,
and, in any case, it’s rather slow nowadays. That’s why I am contemplating an
upgrade to Apple silicon-based Mac hardware - probably some time
It will, eventually. I'm in no major hurry.

I don't remember seeing anything about an ethernet port, which concerns
me more than a little, but that's OK, I'm OK with getting an ethernet
adapter that's USB or Thunderbolt or whatever it is on the other end.
And if it's only 10/100, that's a big disappointment. I have

Unfortunately, we'll all have to wait for that report, as the machine
won't show up until the week of December 14-19. All the
extras--Thunderbolt cable, HDMI cable, keyboard, a couple other
doo-dads--will be here next Wednesday or Thursday.

Mac Mini's have no keyboard. You have to supply your own. I could of
course use my original MM's USB keyboard, which does have a numeric
keypad and center keys, or my Matias wireless keyboard which looks and
works just like an Apple Magic keyboard for all intents and purposes,

The Mac mini does not come with a keyboard. You need to provide one on your own.
