I guess you keep it in the cloud and don’t download anything to your device.

If you go to your Home folder on your Mac, there is a folder called “Music.”
Inside that folder, is another folder called “music” and inside that is one
called “Media.” Inside the media folder is one called “Automatically add to
Music.”
Anything you put in the “Automatically add to Music”
I could use dropbox but then how would I move my files into the music app?

If you want to transfer other content between your Mac and your iOS device, I
recommend using a cloud storage service like iCloud Drive or Dropbox.
