I am pretty sure it is an image as you say. That's why I tried to run it
through Abby fine reader.

I have run into PowerPoints which were nothing more than slideshows of
giant bitmap images of text. Could be you've run into one of those. Are
you sure there is actually text and not just a big picture of text on
the slides?
