Re: Menu navigation in Mail in Sonoma

That’s so weird. But I’m glad to know someone else had that issue. I couldn’t
imagine why I would have chosen that setting. At least this offers an
explanation. And, at least it was an easy fix, once Brad suggested I check it
out.
Cheers,
Donna

The only thing I can think of, is to make sure that your mouse pointer is
set to ignore the VoiceOver cursor.
You can do this in VoiceOver Utility > Navigation, and look for the item
labeled “Ignores VoiceOver cursor Mouse pointer: pop up button”.

 Hi Brad,

Thanks for responding, but I’m very confused. None of the settings in
Quicknav in the VO utility seem relevant at all. Single key Quicknav is
turned off, and that is causing me to be taken to Recent Items. If I
press Vo-Q again, Single Key Quicknav is turned on, and in that case, the
keystrokes I described earlier result in the VO message, Same Heading Not
Found. I can’t imagine what Apple was trying to accomplish with this
change, but I’d really appreciate it if you could give me the steps to
make VO function as it did in Ventura.
 TIA,

OK, now I am the one who is confused.
Other than the changes to Quick Key Navigation, there is little difference in
Sonoma, compared to Ventura.
I have been using Sonoma since it was released in October, with no issues.
I have found Sonoma to be a very stable release.
The only thing I can think of, is to make sure that your mouse pointer is set
to ignore the VoiceOver cursor.
You can do this in VoiceOver Utility > Navigation, and look for the item

Re: Menu navigation in Mail in Sonoma

2024-07-02 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Hi Brad,

Thanks for responding, but I’m very confused. None of the settings in Quicknav
in the VO utility seem relevant at all. Single key Quicknav is turned off, and
that is causing me to be taken to Recent Items. If I press Vo-Q again, Single
Key Quicknav is turned on, and in that case, the keystrokes I described earlier
result in the VO message, Same Heading Not Found. I can’t imagine what Apple
was trying to accomplish with this change, but I’d really appreciate it if you
could give me the steps to make VO function as it did in Ventura.
TIA,
Donna

Re: Menu navigation in Mail in Sonoma

2024-07-02 Thread Bradford Snyder
Rebooting won’t fix this issue.
You need to turn off Single Key Navigation by pressing VO + Q.
This feature used to only work when Quick Nav was enabled, but Apple changed
how it works with the introduction of Sonoma.
In subsequent updates to Sonoma, Apple refined this, and added options to
modify how this feature works. If you wish, you can restore the original
functionality, and make the feature work the way it did before Sonoma.
Go to VoiceOver Utility > Commanders, and select the Quick Nav tab, and here
you can review all the options introduced with Sonoma.

HTH.

Yes, the Apple thing is rather interesting in the menu, but typing in mes real

Re: Menu navigation in Mail in Sonoma

2024-07-02 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
One more thing. In Ventura, when I pressed VO-M, VO said Menu. Now when I
press it, it says Apple, and it seems to actually go into the Apple menu. I
say this because, when I type the letters MES, I am taken to recent items. So
it seems that by pressing VO-M, I’m automatically taken into the apple menu,
not the upper layer of the menu list.
