Your experience is similar to mine. I had them in the late 90s back east, then
tried again in 2005 and had them for about 5
years and stopped using them around 2011 or so. My mother is still a dish
customer because Comcast is so bad. Every time I watch her TV it seems like
there are fewer and fewer channels. Compared to FIOS it’s a fraction of the
channels we have available.

Interesting. I think this was when I had a 4S that we had dish. We've actually
had it a few different times. We had it back east, way before there were phones
like android and iPhone. Then we had it out here a couple of different times,
the last one of which was a few years ago when I had a lousy accessibility

pay the extra 8 cents per sub.

The other problem is their business practices. They fire lots of US workers
and farm the work out over seas, they have also fired disabled people instead
of make accommodation. Not a dish fan here. I used to be, they had a good

Sounds like that’s carrying over to Sling media.

The one thing they did that might be considered good is the whole concept of
services like Sling TV to at least be able to dump the cable and have a decent
selection of channels at a good price, but every time I hear about one of those
retransmission disputes they get into with this or that local TV company makes

any provider is immune from being pulled over these on occasion, but Dish is

Not happy at all with Dish network and haven’t been for years. My problem
starts with the CEO and works on down from there.

For folks who are aware, Verizon just launched LTE advanced or the
ability to bond carriers. T-Mobile has had carrier aggregation in the
network since 2014 and with new advances announced this week jumps
back in to the lead being over 2 times faster than verizon with
maximum speeds of 400 megabits now available. Two key technologies
have been released, 4X4 MIMO and new modulation schema 64/quad upload
 and 256/quad download.
First, 4X4 MIMO allows t-mobile to open twice as many paths to
your handset. This means that data is now spread on multiple paths
per band effectively increasing the bandwidth ( radio bandwidth)
between your handset and the tower. This technology is up and running
now in over 251 cities and quickly being rolled out network wide.
Second, the new modulation scheme means that more bits per
frame or transmission are sent at one time. This upgrade will be
fully rolled out across the T-Mobile network by the end of october.
Combined these technologies allow for more cells per tower, faster
throughput and the ability to offer truly unlimited services with out
worrying about user contention or the need to throttle.
T-Mobile also announced that it’s network now covers 99.7% of
 the area that Verizon covers

They used to also hold a very large block of Verizon Wireless. Verizon however
has paid to separate from what I understand.

Also is Nokia still involved in development of these protocols etc for mobile
networks?

I know they have just recently done something with Microsoft regarding mobile
technology
I think it’s purchased the mobile side of things back, but can’t remember

Oh I am sure. They have been talking about 5G testing now for sometime I think.
It seems like that's the one thing Vesey has over everybody. They still have
the most customers by far, which should mean they have more money than anybody
to spend on these kinds of improvements. T-Mobile has been doing well. But they
are still number three in the big race, and you would think that would impact

You’re forgetting one key thing though, T-Mobile floats a lot of stock out
there and issued blocks recently to raise money for expansion and spectrum.

VZ has a tremendous amount of cash flow but a tremendous amount of debt.
Remember they had to buy their way out of Votophone. You’re right though, it
does help. You should have seen our lab called building 51 (E.T. should like
that reference). We had a whole replication of the VZ network in miniature in
our building.

I’m not sure if the regulators will allow it but it would be nice for T-Mo to
buy Sprint and fix that network or at least put that spectrum to better use.
Unfortunately the dish network burger would probably be more easy to make
happen, I hope it does not.

Re: T-Mobile launches LTE 4X4 MIMO and 64/256 quadrature modulation beating verizon again!

2016-09-19 Thread Mary Otten
Having read the linked article, which specifically mentions Samsung galaxy S7
and S7 edge, and says it more phones will be available, I note the absence of
the iPhone seven and 7+. So the question, how will you know if your iPhone 7
and or 7+ is capable of taking a vantage of all this new stuff?

of tech news. I'm glad to see it's coming to the whole networ. Maybe that means
even we out here in Oregon will get it. Smile. Really need that wider coverage
