I downloaded and copied mplayer_1.0rc1-maemo.18.n800_armel.deb to my n800, and
got the following prompts while trying to install it
unable to install mplayer! some application packages required for the
installation are missing

Thank you, but I got lost on tracking back to what I did before :( I may

For the moment I've solved the problem by reverting to OS 2007 and
installing MPlayer and Free42 on there.
Along the way I dabbled with programming in scratchbox and got some
sample code running.
Regarding these two programs, I have found the following issues.
A) MPlayer is not
I've gone to the web page but can't find where to submit a bug report.
I did, however, see what could be a related open bug: 962.
The file I created was a .avi, and I'm getting no audio.
Here is the command line I used to create it:
$ mencoder dvd://4 -o the_way_c.avi -srate 44100 -oac copy
