What does this mean?
Currently I am booting with systemd-sysvinit and using mkinitrd.
Is it going to now magically/tragically stop working?

It was my understanding that mkinitrd would continue to be supported in
Mageia2 and then be phased out during the Mageia3 development.
If this is the case, why is it that all 'current' kernels now
require dracut?

This is a mis-statement.
Current enchant pkg needs to be converted to use hunspell as the
primary/default backend rather than aspell which it is now uses.

After rebooting tonight for the first time in approx a week I find that
sound no longer works.
Sound card is c-media and is properly detected in both harddrake and
alsaconf and uses the snd_cmipci driver and is set to use pulseaudio.
Driver and modules are loaded
[root@SuperSize ~]# lspcidrake -
For the past 2 days there appears to be an issue if using $MIRRORLIST
urpmi bails with the following:
'Could not find a mirror from mirrorlist $MIRRORLIST'

I've noticed on the latest tmb kernels (those after 3.0.8-1) that
init=systemd is now being auto added to the lilo append.
Thankfully that did not cause a boot issue on this system for I am
still using sysvinit here and Not systemd-sysvinit.
Should it now be auto added with kernels on all systems
