Do you want to contact Discendum for that? I don't remember that they
had done work in that area.
Gregor updated the cloud plugin and we are planning on fixing some high
importance bugs in the plugin still this month for Mahara 16.04.

A few years ago I saw a demo of a plugin made by Discendum Oy (makers of
OB Passport). Maybe it would be worth to contact them to see whether
they agree to open the code and whether the features are worth to be
added to core.

The cloud plugin is not working anymore with present version of Mahara
(since 1.7 I think).
In the wish that eP users foster the ownership of their material, it
would be interesting that Mahara can use files stored elsewhere
(external repositories) such as DropBox or GDrive.
