[Mahara-contributors] [Bug 620161] Re: Distinction between Name and Profile not clear

2011-02-21 Thread Kristina Hoeppner
I would not introduce a larger font. We don't do that anywhere on
Mahara. Right now it looks though as if we did not align the picture
correctly because the bold text appears above. Could you please left-
align it with the image so that it just starts above the image?

Do you link to the edit page for the profile page? I think I would
prefer that instead of the display of the profile page so that they
don't have to take the extra step of clicking on Edit because we want
them to go to the edit screen when they need to arrange content.

We used to have the View profile in the tab and it was not ideal. I
would not put it in the tabs.

Title:
Distinction between Name and Profile not clear

Status in Mahara ePortfolio:
  Triaged

Bug description:
I still have trouble clicking on the correct link and think and
  adjustment may be necessary.

When I click on my name, I am taken to my profile page as others can
  see it.

When I click on Profile, I can edit my profile, but I would think
that I could actually view it.

Having the name and Profile right next to each other is not ideal, I
think, because they are almost the same, but not quite.

When I'm on my profile page (the view), I don't know how to get back
to my dashboard - Oh. I have to click on the Mahara logo.

I like that we have Settings instead of the username in the top
right because that already lessens confusion.

  What about the following:
  - Include a link Home in the navigation links before the others.
  - Profile (also in the tabs on the dashboard page etc.) links to the
profile view.
  - And somewhere we need a link Edit Profile Information to get to all that
stuff. It could go next to Edit Content (though then people might be confused
to distinguish between adding profile info and dragging that info into a view).

  Any ideas?

[Mahara-contributors] [Bug 722495] [NEW] Display certified artefacts

2011-02-21 Thread Kristina Hoeppner
Public bug reported:

Note from Felicia Berryman on bug 547394

My institution would like to be able to offer students the ability to
add certified artifacts. A certified artifact would be an artifact that
a student could opt to use in a view, but could not edit (or be locked
from editing). Instructor-certified comments would also be associated
with the artifact. This request shares some of those similarities. I'm
going to subscribe to this.

[Mahara-contributors] [Bug 722497] [NEW] Place non-author content, e.g. merit badges, on a page

2011-02-21 Thread Kristina Hoeppner
Public bug reported:

On MyPortfolio we had the enquiry about having merit badges displayed on
a student's page / profile. As these should not be tampered with by the
student, the enquiry / wishlist item is similar to bug 722495 as it
boils down to giving somebody else besides the page owner some control
over artefacts placed on a page.

My suggestion for a solution that is open for discussion:

Thank you for your suggestion with the Merit Badges. I think they would
be a good addition. However, the not be able to tamper with part is
tricky because Mahara / MyPortfolio puts the student in the centre and
s/he is the author of all her / his pages. A teacher or administration
cannot put anything on a page that a student can't remove as he doesn't
have the authority on the student's pages.

Thus, introducing such badges for profile pages is not a simple thing to
do. At the moment, the only way I can see this work, besides Craig's
suggestion with the electronic verification [of a PDF file à la Moodle],
would be to develop a database in which each institution admin can store
merit, sports etc. badges (would it be important to categorise them?).
He would then have an area on the student account page where he can add
the badges the student has earned over time. On the edit page screen,
the student would have a new blocktype, e.g. under General, Badges,
which s/he can pull into the content area. That would work not just for
the profile page but for any personal page on MyPortfolio so that he
could also include the badges on a CV page. If the bages are
categorised, s/he can choose which badge categories to display (if that
is necessary). The badges are all displayed as thumbnails or in a series
to scroll through like in the image gallery.

As the student cannot choose the badges individually, but displays them
from the central institution database, they are as tamper-safe as can be
because even when the student allows the copying of that page, the badge
block would display the badges of the student who copies the page into
her / his portfolio as the block would always display the current
student's badges.

  Feature request: Editable views

Bug description:
I would like to be able to allow peer editing of some of the views I
  have created.

Basic Idea:Add another tick box similar to the Allow Copying
tick box which is called Allow Editing. This allows all people who
can access the view the same editing rights as I have myself.

More complex idea: It would be even better if I could configure
whether editing is possible or not - allowing some individual members
  to edit but not others.

You might say that I could facilitate this functionality by using group views
for each invidividual member but it would be nicer in certain contexts to
allow editing of views I own myself.

A case scenario for this would be in the delivery of NVQs in the UK.
A candidate and an assessor/trainer could collaboratively edit a view
containing a progress tracking table in a text box. This view could
then be submitted to a course group for assessment in the same way
as other views representing untis of their qualification.

[Mahara-contributors] [Bug 722509] [NEW] Google search results on mahara.org don't display correct information

2011-02-21 Thread Kristina Hoeppner
Public bug reported:

The information for search results for the number of post, authors and
last update in the search result list of the Google search is incorrect.
Is that an indexing problem? It would be better if the info was not
displayed than display incorrect information because if you know that
something had been posted to a forum after the date of Last post, you
don't necessarily check that forum to find your answer but it is most
likely to appear there.

An example is the attached screenshot which links to

definitely more than 3 authors, 2 posts and also some in 2010.

My original feature request is that I as an admin want to users to a

Regarding my previous comment on number of group that users can belong

[Mahara-contributors] [Bug 655631] Re: Forum post downloads should be publicly available in a public forum

2011-02-21 Thread Richard Mansfield
Planning to fix this using the attached patch.

First, whenever a forum post is saved, it'll use a basic regex to add
the post id as a query parameter into any download links inside the post
body, so wwwroot/artefact/file/download.php?file=77 would become
wwwroot/artefact/file/download.php?file=77post=88.

Then in download.php, it tries to check all the appropriate permissions
(the user can see the post, the post author owns (or is allowed to
publish) the artefact, the artefact id is in the post body).

I hope it's fairly solid, but it's easy to overlook stuff when doing
this kind of thing, so it'd be great if someone else could take a look
at it and try to think of ways a user could gain access to an artefact
they shouldn't be able to see.
