[Mahara-contributors] [Bug 970439] Re: Group type Request doesn't show up on group homepage

2012-04-12 Thread Kristina Hoeppner
Group types are gone in 1.5 (sorry for my miswording) and there are also
a number of other pieces of information being displayed, e.g.
submissions, publicly viewable group etc. Therefore, we would need more
information from other users whether this information should be
displayed or if we just don't display any of it. That's why it has the
status Wishlist.

When you create a request membership group, this group type doesn't
show up on the group homepage. The type however is listed when it is
  an open or controlled group.

[Mahara-contributors] [Bug 897863] Re: Add option to the feedback to prevent staff and admin feedback to be deleted

2012-04-12 Thread adriaan vorster
Hi
I have a similar requirement to divide user rights in respect of a repository.
I have an academic environment in which there is an Academic Manager that
oversees education. The learning is managed by more than one academic
supervisor and naturally we have a student that participates in this effort as
well.
The learning is structured to have documents that form the basis of the
progress and evaluation and these documents has to be version and life cycle
managed.
The idea is that there will be a dedicated academic space in which documents
could be created and collaboratively worked on, and regularly presented for
evaluation, but that only one party, the Academic Manager, will have delete
rights on this space.
As the academic repository content will be used for academic evaluation and
progress the essence of the requirement is to have a digital space that allows
all authorised participants to have controlled access, create and read rights,
but that only a designated party could have delete rights.
Is this possible within the Mahara environment?
How would I be able to set up such functionality?
Thanks

  proposal:

Add an institution option (I would not make it a general site option
but allow institutions to decide that) which would disable the
deleting of staff and admin feedback on pages and artefacts.

This should not just happen on submitted pages to a course group but
on any feedback that a staff member or admin leaves.

[Mahara-contributors] [Bug 900529] Re: Add a static Mahara logo that can be picked up by Facebook

2012-04-12 Thread Kristina Hoeppner
It's not about the Like button, but that the Mahara logo is picked up by
Facebook and not a random image from the page.

Title:
Add a static Mahara logo that can be picked up by Facebook

Status in Mahara ePortfolio:
  In Progress

Bug description:
When you share a Mahara page with Facebook, it may not pick up the
logo but choose another image from the site. In order to tell FB which
image should be used, the following could be implemented in the raw
theme so that all pages get it:

  https://developers.facebook.com/docs/share/

E.g. When you share the Mahara homepage (tested it with
demo.mahara.org), you don't get the logo but other images that are on
the page. If you share a link to a portfolio page, there is no logo
and no information about the site but Your browser does not have
javascript enabled for this site. Mahara requires javascript to be
enabled before you can log in.

If the following would be possible that would be great:

  1. Always show the Mahara logo - set that as the image to be used by
Facebook. If other sites want to use a different image, they could
exchange that in the raw theme, but at least we would have a default
  logo.

  2. Check (and fix) what / where a short description of a site would
need tobe put into the header so that it is picked up by Facebook even
  when sharing a portfolio page.

[Mahara-contributors] [Bug 970439] Re: Group type Request doesn't show up on group homepage

The field indicator Group type is wrong. If it stays, it should need
something else there and never be left empty as every group has some
sort of settings.

[Mahara-contributors] [Bug 980428] Re: More refined permissions on group files and pages

2012-04-12 Thread Kristina Hoeppner
Hi Adriaan,

As far as I know it is currently not possible to distinguish between
create and edit rights on a grand scale in Mahara. In Mahara 1.5 you
will be able to decide who can create and edit pages (and thus also
files), but that goes for both and doesn't distinguish between create
and edit.

Once you have uploaded a file you can take off permissions for groups of
users (members, tutors, admins), but I would assume that this would be a
fairly onerous process in your case as it would mean that everybody
would have to remember it. ;-)

That would be a new functionality then to distinguish between creating
and editing in the group settings.

If you don't have a 1.5RC2 or Mahara master install, you can check it
out at master.dev.mahara.org or look at
http://manual.mahara.org/en/1.5_STABLE/groups/create_group.html where
you see a screenshot of the revised group settings compared to Mahara
1.4.

Cheers
Kristina
