Markdown has not come up in conversations with people. Project page is http://daringfireball.net/projects/markdown/ It does require Perl so I think, if it is offered, it should be a site option. markdown is available for Debian and presumably Ubuntu, or as a standalone perl script, and it spits XHTML/HTML out the other end.
