Use something like Mhonarc as your archive application. Pipermail
doesn't do a good job with html.
Another alternative is to write a small script that converts the html
into text inside the mbox that the archive program uses (lynx will help
you do this). Then you can delete the old archives and
You could also use hypermail to do this. In our implementation of Mailman,
we only use pipermail as a backup to hypermail. We maintain a subscribed
user in each list which runs a hypermail pipe to keep the archives up to
date. The pipermail mbox becomes a backup in case the html archives are

Is it possible to set up Mhonarc without re-archiving everything, and then
try re-archiving using Mhonarc, but have things such that if I can't get
Mhonarc working I can easily re-archive with Pipermail? The FAQ still

Hi, everyone,
I just recently tried to upgrade to Mailman 2.1, but I must have been doing
something wrong with genaliases. Genaliases spits out plaintext output
about the changes that need to be made, but it doesn't actually make them or
regenerate the aliases.db file. Sorry if this is a

I am running Mailman behind a firewall. It works GREAT!. Is there a way to
remove references to the web interface on emails so I am not pointing
people to a machine they can not get to? We would like to use the web
interface internally and for now that is the only option.

Con,
Its not documented, but there is a way to add the name..
Just put the name in Parenthesis after the email address in the subscription
window. I.e. [EMAIL PROTECTED] (Darrell Duane)
Now, my question is, how can we get the real names to show up in
the subscriber list that shows up from

The problem was I was missing:

Now it's mch better :)

What MTA are you using? Sendmail?
If so, then you have to make the changes manually ... I think if you use
postfix the changes are made automatically.

I am indeed using sendmail. I guess I'll have to write a script to process
the output from genaliases, then.
Y'all,
After much head-banging, I have *finally* figured out how
to configure Mailman 2.1 to do a newsletter-only style list.
I have updated FAQ 3.11 to reflect my findings. My initial
assumptions are:
* postings to the list by nonmembers should be rejected.
* postings to the list by
Hello,
I apologize in advance if this is a dumb question, though I didn't

Why should the list administrator be bothered with having to
tend admin requests from spammers and other idiots?
Jeff,
I assume this is because people are generally more concerned about false
positives in spam-checking than they are with having to glance at a few
admin requests. I suppose
Since most of our lists are used as moderated distribution lists and are
synchronized via scripts, it wasn't very difficult.

I haven't seen this problem myself, but others who have seen it say to

There appears to be a problem with the structure of the old Cookie

set these up successfully? Please let me know ASAP.

This is a pretty common option used on listserv lists.
I didn't see anything that would directly allow this, but seems like it
wouldn't be too hard to have it be an added feature. Has anyone put
