AFAIK, Mailman 2.1 is not going to be fixed to use any particular external
database, but will have the hooks to use any external database. Someone,
perhaps you, will have to write the interface from Mailman to the database
format.
Someone may have already written such an interfa

Look through the Archives. There are several schemes for doing this.
There are even some patches that modify Mailman so that certain lists do
not use passwords.

I found a bug and would like to know how to patch:
a subject with a special Character like "äöü" "German Umlate" causes the
subject to look like this on repeated replies:
