The short version is that there’s no way to do push notifications
for IMAP accounts on iOS without their server logging into your
account and keeping an IDLE connection open.

Many iOS email clients do this. It’s the price you pay for having
timely push notifications.

Just my 2¢.

That might have been true 4 years ago when that post was written, but
iOS has had background refresh for some time. It's no excuse anymore.

Storing passwords on servers is a security nightmare. Whoever wrote that
article clearly has little security clue.

Charlie and Verdon
thanks very much for your very helpful thoughts re dodgy software
companies and their sketchy privacy policies.
I guess we’re all guilty of clicking “I agree” too easily on
occasion… Or maybe not…

Thanks again to Bill for the initial shout.
Regards
Jim

Thanks Bill, all is now explained. I’m awaiting a helpful

Carefully read their privacy policy, and then decide whether you are
still happy having any of their software near any of your devices.
You may not want to be dealing with their support either.

They are not doing anything illegal; since they clearly state they
are going to take over your email accounts. I was far from happy
allowing a dodgy company to take over my email accounts.

A university I worked at attempted to ban the use of this product and
several similar ones, except you know, you can't tell some professors
anything ;-)

Serious security and privacy implications!
