I don't use SpamSieve but I've been using MailMate test releases on my
M1 Mac Mini since I bought it earlier this year. I simply copied my
Application Support/MailMate directory from my Intel laptop.

Everything "just works".

Been there and just done that…

1. Up to date Spamsieve and no problems with transition

2. MM older versions not so happy with Monterey on M1 so best get 5845
build then do the upgrade (I didn’t do this and just glimpsed an
update suggestion mid crash)

YMMV as I have another crash issue under investigation (unrelated IMAP
synchronisation problem), but I can see little harm in doing the upgrade
before the migration.

[MlMt] Test build - release notes update

2021-11-10 Thread Sam Birch
On Saturday Benny posted r5844, with a comprehensive summary of all changes
since r5673. It’s a good read if you’ve been sticking to the release builds and
are wondering what you’re missing. It’s also hopefully an indication that the
next stable release is getting closer.

I’d still suggest that folks stick to the recommended Big Sur build rather than
using random test builds, but of course YMMV.

Here are the release notes:

Nope. The test versions through the current r5844 have all run on Mojave
(10.14.) No major issues and Benny cheerfully accepts bug reports for
them on Mojave.

I'm still on 1.13.2, since I'm not on OS 11 yet and I believe 1.13.2 is
the latest for 10.anything. I find lots of formatting problems in
markdown, including the need to add extra blank lines to get one to show
up.

Re: [MlMt] Filter(?) Message is moved to trash

2021-11-10 Thread Randall Gellens

On 9 Nov 2021, at 1:47, Fabian Blechschmidt wrote:

Good morning!

I have the problem, that a message is moved to Trash. Every time I
move it back, it is moved into Trash again.

I can’t find a rule that explains that (neither on Mailmate nor on
on server) and neither on the message, nor on the source or the
activity viewer I can find any type of log, why this happens.

Is there anything which helps me to debug this? I searched through the
mailing list, because I was sure I read something about it, but
couldn’t find it.

Unfortunately, MailMate doesn't seem to log rule evaluations or actions,
which would be terrifically helpful.

One thing I've resorted to is opening the file 'Library/Application
Support/MailMate/Mailboxes.plist' in a text editor and looking for lines
that have "trash", for example:

actions = (
{   mailbox = "trash";
type = "moveMessage";
},

This indicates a rule that moves a message to the trash. A line or so
down there will be a line that contains

description = "foo";

Whatever is in quotes ("foo" in the example above) is the name of the
rule. Look for a line with "filter =", this contains the actual rules of
the filter (but you can more easily understand it by looking in the
MailMate app at the "Rules" for the mailbox, and finding the rule with
the same description. To find the mailbox that holds this rule, look for
the closing ")" of the "rules = (". It might be after a line such as:

);

That is, three tab characters, a close parenthesis and a semicolon.
Following that should be the mailbox UUID (unique identifier), which is
of the form

uuid = "imap://myuser@mymailserver/Inbox";

The part at the end is the name of the mailbox ("Inbox" in the example
above). The part after "imap://" is the account info for the IMAP mail
server.

Looks like Benny has got round to releasing new beta versions: I got
5844 yesterday after being on 5820 for months. 5820 was very stable and
had the new Markdown engine. I **think** that, while most of the changes
since then have affected message views and the composer, the Markdown
engine should have been unaffected. One major niggle has at least been
resolved: I'm no longer seeing oodles of newlines when replying to
e-mails. So, thanks Benny!
