I know that some email services won’t accept mail from a Yahoo
account. Does this have something to do with that?

No. Mail transport is via SMTP, this is IMAP, which handles delivered
message access.

This is *probably* due to Yahoo having a limit on the number of
concurrent open connections from the same IP address and/or to the same
account. By default, MailMate opens up to 3 connections to each account
when busy and will keep one idle connection open with the INBOX selected
so that you get alerted when new mail arrives.

What to do?

1. Search the Yahoo docs (or contact whatever support channel you have
there) for the connection limit so you know what you have to work with.

2. Check how many mail clients you have simultaneously using that
account. Some clients will open MANY connections to an IMAP account, so
you may need to find a way to set limits in whatever clients you use. In
MailMate, you can change the limit by editing ~/Library/Application\
Support/MailMate/Sources.plist to add a line like this to the block for
the Yahoo account:

 maxNumberOfConnections = "2"

Generally it is problematic to reduce the number of connections to 1
unless you are willing to give up live notifications of new mail. If you
do that, make sure you don't have any mailboxes in the Yahoo account
with "Connected" as their synchronization schedule. You can identify
those by them being shown in the Source list in bold type.

Re: [MlMt] Google is eliminating the grandfathered free Google Apps (hosted domain) offering

2022-01-28 Thread Richard Rettke
I have some thoughts on Fastmail.

I switched from Gmail to Fastmail a year ago. Thank goodness it was a yearlong
relatively slow transition for me and I had hung on to my gmail accounts.

In December I started getting errors in Mailmate that Fastmail was complaining
about too many tags every time I attempted to assign a new tag. I would delete
the assigned tag and as I’m a pretty heavy user of tags I opened a ticket with
Fastmail.

The long and the short is that the Fastmail account is limited to 150 tags
across all users and aliases. For my modus operandi that is grossly
insufficient. As much as I would like to get off of Gmail, for the present I am
migrating back from Fastmail and trying to envision a use for the 2 years
remaining on my Fastmail subscription.

I like Fastmail and this was the only thing that cropped up that is unworkable
for me. So if you’re not a user of Tags, I heartily recommend it.

The new plans start at $6/person/month. Although apparently there's some

Given that all I use it for is IMAP/SMTP, that raises the question of

When I run *Check for Update* it says, “5852 is the latest version
available. You have version 5853.”

Quinn,

The most recent beta release is 5864. You can get it by holding down
the Option key while you press the “Check Now” button in the
Software Update Preferences. A lot of us on this list are beta junkies
and Benny has been very good (not perfect) about maintaining the
quality and reliability for these releases.

Technically Option+Check Now gets you the latest test/alpha version. You
get betas automatically if you select that option in the "Software
Update" prefs panel.

However, Benny's 'test' versions are generally beta quality. I've run
almost entirely the latest one for years and I only recall one case
where I've had to backrev.

[MlMt] Help with layout plist

2022-01-28 Thread Zvi Biener
Hi All,

Perhaps I can enlist your help with the attached layout? It combines a
correspondence view with the old 'thread' view. It is attached, and on version
5864 it looks like this:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/4mfg2u0oak2q24j/screenshot.jpg?dl=0.

![](cid:B299AC91-268C-45B0-A1FE-2A0B990573F1@gmail.com "shot.jpeg")

I've hacked it together, but I'm way out of my league. I wonder:

1. When you click on a message in the "Correspondence" view, that message opens
up in the message viewer. But when you click on a message in the "Thread" view,
nothing happens. Is there a way to make it behave like the "Correspondence"
view.

2. Thread in the "Correspondence" and "Thread" view are collapsed by default.
Is there a way to make them expanded by default? Or even flatten the list
entirely?

3. Is there a way to control the font size of the "Correspondence", "Thread",
and "Mailbox" view independently from one another. Right now, a change to one
changes the font size of all.

Thanks,
Zvi
