[MlMt] Tags – Maintain/copy to Email Response

2022-09-23 Thread Zak McClellan
I use message Tags extensively. Assigning all sent and received email. At least
the items that are not spam. That's another topic for another day.

My wish for today is to have these tags be carried over to responses that have
already been tagged.

When reading a message I will tag (T) it, typically from the list/preview
screen. Then hit reply (R).

Is it possible to have these tags automatically populate for the replied
message when the original email has been tagged?

Hi All,

I wonder if you would share your various methods for pasting html

However, pasting into MailMate results in the plain-text phrase
“XYX” without the link. Right now, I just add the link manually.
But do you all have better methods?

Thanks,
Zvi

The "XYX" text turns into a link for me as I use markdown when sending
mail. When referencing a link within the body of my email I use the
markdown reference for inline links. Only the body text is visible [body
text](XYX).

[This link](http://example.net/) has no title attribute.

I will then paste the XYX as the full URL under my signature.

[MlMt] Markdown Heading ##

2022-09-07 Thread Zak McClellan
I recently migrated to a new computer:

From: MailMate 1.13.2 (5673)

To: MailMate 1.14 (5895)

I noticed in the composer for Markdown I now use a space after the # sign for
Heading text, where previously no space was needed (but a space also worked).

###Individual Project

Versus

### Individual Project

Would this have been something I tweaked on my old computer? Or is this
inherent in the new version (1.14)?
After a Google search it appears that the former behavior (without a space) is
not the norm.

Re: [MlMt] Resizing images

2021-03-08 Thread Zak McClellan

Jolin-

I resize the images when I want them embedded in the email. If I am
sending an attachment/file I will send as is, up to 20 MB. Above 20 MB
I will link to a file. This is typically with PDF's through dropbox.

I use an Alfred (v3.8.6) script to resize images.
https://www.alfredforum.com/topic/8397-resize-image/

http://www.packal.org/workflow/resize-image

This is usually with screenshots that I size down to fit on screen.
Although this workflow is performed on the jpg/png in finder before I
attach to the email message.
I do not know of anything inside of MailMate (v2.0BETA 6151) that upon
attaching a file or on send that reduces the email/image size.

One of the things that I think Apple Mail does really well is dealing
with image attachments. In particular, when I’m sending a message
and

I need to include some photos to show what I’m talking about, Mail
shows me the total size of the email with the images and lets me
resize

them, adjusting the displayed size to indicate the impact of the
resizing:

![](cid:E55905C2-02DE-40CA-8846-E7A61FAEFDF6@oakandapple.org

How do people manage images in MailMate? I have to confess that when I
need to included images in an email, particularly photos, I usually
open

up Mail and send the email from there. But I’d prefer to stay in
MailMate, so is there a way to easily choose the size of any image
attachments and see what size the email will be?

Mick-

This is customizable. Information may be found here:

- https://lists.freron.com/mailmate/2014-December/003494.html

I have mine set up this way:

Command: defaults write com.freron.MailMate MmFilenameFormatString
-string '${#date/(\S*) (\d\d):(\d\d):(\d\d).*/$1_$2-$3-$4/} -
[${from.name:${from.address}}] - ${subject}.eml'

Result: 2016-09-26_16-21-59 - [Zak] - Email Subject.eml

The only issue I have is the timezone used to label the file. Some
messages use the local time, some use UTC. It does mess up file
sorting.

Not sure about dragging and dropping in one step. I just tag the saved
email as 'saved-eml.'

Two archive questions:

#1. When dragging emails out of MailMate to local storage folder,
separate .eml files are created with todays created date, but not the
content created date. Hazy memrory -> This has been possible somehow
in

the past, maybe with other software. Is there a way with MailMate ?

#2. Is there a method to drag-copy-delete in one step to local storage
folder?

Thx Mick

For long term archival I now simply recommend dragging emails out of
MailMate to
save them on disk and then delete them in MailMate (and thereby on
the

IMAP server).
These are still going to be searchable using Spotlight and viewable
in

MailMate (but
not searchable in MailMate).by Benny Kjær Nielsen Tue, 17 Jan

[MlMt] Tag Assignment

2021-01-08 Thread Zak McClellan

Recently I noticed that the assignment of a new tag to a received email
removes the existing tag. Currently when I want to assign more than one
tag I delete the existing tag then enter the new tag and the existing
tag.

I am not sure when this behavior began and don't believe it has always
been this way. When I assign a tag I use the tag keyboard shortcut 'T'
then enter the first letters of the tag name. Once the desired name
appears I hit 'Enter' twice to confirm the name and close the data entry
line.

Some of these "existing" tags are assigned by rules attached to the
mailbox source.

Hope there's a solution.
I suspect that a software update is in order. But like others here I
tend to leave things alone when they are working.

Re: [MlMt] AltaMail vs. Preside?

2020-05-15 Thread Zak McClellan

Bryce-

I am late to post on your question. I use/have used both AltaMail and
Preside. They are both good options with different features. I started
with AltaMail (Classic) so probably a bit biased. I stuck around for
the upgrade/transition to subscription.

My main email client to triage messages on iPhone is Mail. The GUI is
just better and I am quickly able to swipe away unwanted email. After
the basics, the two features I stressed for iOS are Notifications and
Tags/Keywords. On the iPhone AltaMail is my choice.

Mail only offers a VIP list of notifications. I receive too many
messages for every email to 'ding'. I use AltaMail so I can use a
(business) client's domain for notifications. So anytime anyone from a
client sends an email I receive a separate notification tone. Often I
do not know the person or have any contact information. So this
prevents their message from going unnoticed. I do wish that custom
tones were allowed. Right now there is only a set list.
I also have specific tones for specific people. Some messages just mean
more. ;-)

Tags/Keywords are also available. If I recall these are not on by
default. In fact they may be called Flags which makes it more
confusing. There were some settings to tweak. And as you noted the
settings menus are not for the faint of heart. You also have to turn on
the tags you want to use. This is a feature and bug. I have a long tag
list so I appreciate being able to shorten it on the small screen.
Those with a shorter list wanting to see everything may find checking
every item for visibility to be laborious.

One thing missing for all iOS email clients is the availability of
Markdown, especially tables. I currently draft messages in 1Writer for
emailing Markdown, but tables do not translate well into iOS Mail from
1Writer. They're decent but not the same as on the desktop.

Enjoyed your article. There are a lot of choices and details. But
that's good for everyone.

Like Richard I tried Preside for a while, but have gone back to
AltaMail. There was a rewrite of the software some time ago, as well as
a change in business model for AltaMail. Just took me a while to get
onboard. The older version just worked (for a while after the update).

ALtaMail combines tagging abilities and notifications that Mail.app
(iOS) does not offer. I find that Mail.app is still faster at the
initial review/deleting of mail. The AltaMail notifications are the
real attraction for me. I have set specific tones for individuals as
well as domains. Definitely helps to not miss specific mail messages.
AltaMail has to be running in the background. The older version did not
have this requirement, but you did redirect your mail for this
functionality.

[MlMt] Export conversations?

2017-04-05 Thread Zak McClellan

This may not be exactly what you are looking for, but it’s close:

defaults write com.freron.MailMate MmFilenameFormatString -string
'${#date/(\S*) (\d\d):(\d\d):(\d\d).*/$1_$2-$3-$4/} -
[${from.name:${from.address}}] - ${subject}.eml'

This is typed/copied to a Terminal command line, and returns a filename
like:
2017-04-05_12-00-01 - [mailmate-requ...@lists.freron.com] - mailmate
Digest, Vol 73, Issue 6.eml

These references helped me get close to what I was looking for:
- https://lists.freron.com/mailmate/2014-December/003494.html

After re-reading your post I see that you are searching for conversation
exports. This only takes one email at a time.

Hi, I would like to export complete conversations, correspondences,
search results where the filename is build up of the email data:
-mmm-dd-hh-mm-ss_subject so I can sort these emails.

Is this possible?

Yes, MailMate (IMAP) tagging on iOS – Holy Grail stuff right there.

Re: [MlMt] mailmate Digest, Vol 62, Issue 19

Let me add one caveat:

The two installations should not butt up against each other or have
conflicts. You can install any number of different IMAP clients on
any
number of computers with no problem, since the canonical home for
your
email is in the cloud. That's how IMAP works and why it was
developed.

I've found that it's a bad idea to have multiple machines running
simultaneously with rules that sort and categorize incoming messages.
What I do is have all of the rules on one machine; ditto SpamSieve.
For

me, what works best is SpamSieve on my always-on desktop, but sorting
rules on my laptop. Why the split? Spam I never want to see, so I
always want to get rid of it quickly. But important mail I want to
see
immediately on my phone, so when I'm not using my laptop I'll be
alerted

to inbound mail. (I also use server-side rules for less-important
mailboxes that I'd never want to look at on the phone, but that's a
separate story.)

Ok I'll bite. Time for a separate story.

What do you use for your server side rules, Fastmail, home server,
Gmail?
I use Hover for mail. There are limited server side options for rules
and forwarding. I have aspired to limiting "important" email to my
phone (iOS) for a long time. Since iOS does not allow for separate
tones for email senders (just a VIP list), I use a Gmail forwarding and
AltaMail notifications.

Works well for me.

While I don't BCC email, I do request the delivery status notification
as well. Left over from my corporate Outlook days. Benny (as always)
was very helpful in getting the setting right for an IMAP hover account.
Not that familiar with Terminal but he walked me through to get things
set up.

[MlMt] Attachments - Numbers File

2015-02-11 Thread Zak McClellan
I do not work with Numbers files that often, but needed to email one
today (.numbers)

My usual file attachment methodology did not work.

I typically copy (Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the file from Finder. I
also tried the Attachments toolbar/icon between the header and body of
the message as well as Shft+Command+A. All of these actions returned:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/ssikedo2yi0gzt9/Screenshot%202015-02-11%2012.04.16.png?dl=0
"You cannot attach a folder to an email. You must compress it first, for
example, using "Compress…" in the Finder."

Any ideas on a remedy?

I'll second that. Keep it profitable and something you like doing.

[MlMt] Requesting DSN's (RFC 3461)

2014-06-12 Thread Zak McClellan

One (experimental) feature I have been struggling to use is email read
receipts. I have edited the Submissions.plist for each and all of my
email IMAP accounts (Yahoo, Gmail, Fastmail, and Hover) without success.

Release Notes - Experimental support for requesting DSNs
http://updates.mailmate-app.com/release_notes

Any ideas?

I have used receipts within PostBox and K9 mail on my phone on the Hover
server with success. Not sure what could be at issue.
Here is the content of my ~/Library/Application
Support/MailMate/Submission.plist

{ smtpServers = (
{   port = "587";
portSelection = "manual";
requireSSL = :true;
serverURL =
"smtp://username%40yahoo@smtp.mail.yahoo.com";
requestDSN = "SUCCESS,FAILURE,DELAY";

}

Apologies if this topic has been reviewed/discussed. My internet
searches have not been productive.
