Actually, the ALT + click was the action of which I was speaking.
Perhaps “auto-expand” was a poor choice of words here…I did mean
to expand the entire thread with a single operation which is what the
ALT key gives me here…

Still not automatically, but if your parent message is selected you can
press the right arrow on your keyboard to expand the thread and left to
collapse and if you hold the "ALT" key then all the contained threads
will expand/collapse.
Also, it's the same behaviour when you click on the
BRILLIANT…thank you…
Really finding this app to be far far superior to other mail clients…

I assume by “auto” you mean “in response to a single user action”?
I have this in a custom keybindings file:
"[" = "expandThread:";
"]" = "collapseThread:";

Hello all,
Before filing a new FR, I wanted to ask if there is any way to
auto-expand a given message thread? I know this is somewhat possible
using the “Thread Arcs” view and then clicking on what appears to be
the lowest message in the arc but being able to either context-click or
better
