That's one way to accomplish the goal. I honestly was thinking about this as
simply as most other email applications I've used; from Mutt to Mail.app. I
want a shortcut to include specific text based upon a personal selection. I
don't really care about training. I understand why that's really useful for
others, but, I, personally, would be happy just being able to click on the
Signature drop-down inside this compose window and select the .sig I wanted
to use for this email. I'm happy with not everything in life being fully
 automated.

Would training MM in adding an *empty* signature solve your problem? A
second signature with all the business card info you want to add to your
email can then be manually selected, and the underlying mechanism (trained
on the empty signature) would see this as noise and the overall behaviour
 would stay as you like.

That might work and I'll see if there's some way to do that. I haven't
explored exactly how the training works, but, this might let me accomplish
what I'm after. Thanks for the idea.

Completely reasonable suggestion. I haven't used this previously, but
am aware of what it can do. For the moment, it's just as fast to have
Sublime Text or some other simple text processor open with a sample and
copy-paste, and that works just fine for this one use of snippets I
currently have.

But if it gets to be annoying, yep, TextExpander seems a way to go.

If I type -=, it puts in my standard (non-phone #) sig, and --=, puts in
a longer, more formal sig including all contact details. You really
can't get better than that with menu commands. I've never used signature
features in a mail app...

No, only if the context is who you are writing to.

It seems to be all or nothing, and whilst I appreciate the
intelligence MailMate tries to use to decide which signature to use, I
actually want to manually select one only every now and then.

This is also the goal of the dynamic signatures. I would probably need
to understand your contexts to understand the problem/request.

Hi Fabian,

I don't know your exact case, but I as a colleague, customer and
service provider hate it, when people don't include at least a
telephone number to their emails. I have often dates with my clients
and it is really annoying, when the traffic is bad and I'm not able to
call them, because there is not telephone number

I get your preference here - my request was merely one to see if there
was a way that MailMate, like other mail applications, could address my
personal way of preferring email. I've always preferred to type a
command or click a button to get a specific signature added.

Unlike you, however, I detest (and never include) phone numbers in
signatures. I also do not include it on my business card. Again, a
personal preference, but, a phone call is an incredibly rude way to
communicate for my world. It's a hard interrupt. It stops everything.
It doesn't take into account that the person being called may have other
(electronic) things they are working on...and, sadly, 99% of the calls I
get are actually far better addressed by a simple, short, email.

But I work in a highly technical field and having things read out over
the phone is just silly anyway -- it needs to be documented and
cut-and-pastable. If I need to have a call with someone, I can provide
a contact number, or I can call them -- but I like maintaining that
option manually.

Anyway, it's just a personal preference thing. I was hoping there was
some secret toggle somewhere that would let the stored Signatures in the
Preferences exist, but only appear when I selected the one I wanted from
the Signature drop-down in a compose window.

Regards,
Scott

Hi Scott,

I'm sure you understand it the right way, but to be 110% sure: I don't
want to tell you what to do :-) I know exactly what your problem is and
I think I hate calls the same way you do. Thankfully my clients write me
most of the time... Skype, email, whatever and don't call me.

Best regards
