The composer address text fields should already expand to email
addresses if entering a group name from Contacts (Address Book). Until
recently it didn't work for smart groups, but that is the only known
issue.

(The requested feature is to support Contacts in the conditions used in
smart mailboxes and searches.)

A strong +1 from me as well.

Noted.

Settings up smart folders for customers and groups of friends would be
made a lot easier if one can use Contacts groups.

As a workaround, you might appreciate the trick described by Zvi Biener
in [this mailing list post][1]. You could, for example, tag an email
from a friend and then have a rule which tags all future emails from the
same friend with the same tag. You only need 1 tag and 1 rule, but you
can tag any number of friends. Alternatively, you could move messages to
an IMAP mailbox instead of using a tag and then use a rule to move
messages from the same sender.

hi there,

I'm another who misses the groups feature of Mail.

Rules? Where are they? Yes, I've enabled Experimental 2.0 feature.

Thanks.

Rules can be added to any mailbox. Right-click a mailbox and choose
“Edit Mailbox...” and notice the Rules pane.

If using rules then it's probably a good idea to update to the latest
test version (various bug fixes): Hold down ⌥ when clicking “Check
Now” in the Software Update preferences pane (r4161 is currently the
most recent revision).
