Re: [MlMt] Change email provider: how to do preserve MM settings

2024-11-04 Thread Henry Seiden

Michael,

In that case it should be simply setting up the new source account. If
you are filtering spam though, some more adjustments might need to be
done.

I use SpamSieve for that and if I any new sources occur, I usually train
my spam settings within SpamSieve for that condition with the new Source
account.

Usually not much training is involved since the spam senders eventually
follow the transfer somehow. Hence the need for filtering the first
place. I last happened for me when I made the switch away from G-Mail in
favor of iCloud. It took awhile, but I noticed that the junk follows on
(but still remains on the old account as well as the old…).

Think the Rules are in the general settings:
com.freron.MailMate.plist, but you may need to confirm with someone
else. I shut down MM and copy all settings whether moving to a new
machine or re-establishing settings after a problem occurs (also I
rarely change settings, though when I do make a backup of all that is
dated, so I can revert safely).

Same for all settings. I move all settings. YMMV.

See attached and you can see it in the list as well, with comments.
Hope that helps.

Jonny,

I practice due caution in moving to another machine, so as to include
all Rules, mailboxes, signatures and settings of other kinds that you
may be using (or have used in the past and forgotten about). In short
what you want to keep working on your new setup from the old.

So I’d recommend you go with the complete list specified by the
developer to migrate one system to another. YMMV. Also I would put in
the same version that’s working for you on the new machine and upgrade
as required for a current version if you notice any anomalies.

The current Experimental build of M-M 1.14 is 6065. Downloadable from
Archives,[ here](https://updates.mailmate-app.com/archives/) .

For a list of settings to migrate (and a bit of a description) see
either the full [Manual](https://manual.mailmate-app.com/rebuild) or
the Help file in the the current MM app Menu>Help>Rebuild Database>Topic
in Blue, “How to Transfer MailMate Settings to another computer”.
Both versions seem identical to me.

I am retiring the Mac that I leave on and will only be using the other

retired to the other one. I looked in the message archives and found
a few of different approaches.

Both Macs have all the same email accounts configured. All are IMAP
(some iCloud and some Gmail). I have synchronized all of the accounts.

I this as simple as to quit MM on both machines and then just move
Mailboxes.plist to the Mac I want to keep?

Or should I do something more complicated? I want a reliable method
even if it involves more work.--- End Message ---

Should I back up all my MailMate settings and do a find-and-replace for
the folder IDs, or is there a better way to handle the transfer?

Has anyone done this before?

**Steps I prefer:**
- I like to switch to mailbox.org.
- I use a migration service to transfer emails (they provide a voucher

**My question:**

What steps should I follow to transfer my MailMate settings to the new
email provider?

I assume folder IDs will change, so the Rules and Smart Mailboxes
might break since they rely on UUIDs. Is there a guide available for
this process?
