He could edit /[user directory]/Library/Application
Support/Mailmate/Sources.plist in order to have drafts and sent
messages from one account stored in the respective folders of another
account and then unsubscribe from the Sent and Drafts folders of the
first account. Works fine here. That way, you can subscribe from all
folders (except for the [Gmail] folder if it is a GMail-Account).

Not exactly what he asked for (i.e., no auto-subscription in the first
place) but maybe a good enough solution.

Just for the record, this is not officially supported :-) In fact, I'm
not even sure it'll work since I've never tried it.

Ticket #1679 is kind of related to this and goes a little further:

Hopefully I'll get to that one eventually.

People on this list are just trying to help. I'm the only one who can be
blamed for any annoying MailMate behavior.

The sent/draft/... folders are not magic folders in the sense that some
email clients generate folders to maintain private state. They are
needed to store, e.g., drafts and sent messages, but clearly you are
using MailMate in a different way and I think this why it's annoying
behavior in your eyes. Unfortunately, MailMate currently needs these
folders to work properly.

Randy - if you use smart folders you have 100% control over which folders you
see.

Then close the sources folder.

That is the way to do what you ask.

Let me rephrase it. Sources is where the messages are actually
officially stored. MM keeps copies on your computer but they are just
that, copies. MM does not have offline mailboxes. If the lists of
mailboxes in Sources is overwhelming for you, you might try to create a
set of smart mailboxes to give you access to your mails in the way it is
practical and useful for you.

i am not trying to hide the SOURCES list; it is my main index. fwiw, i
have MAILBOXES hidden.

MailMate has to put emails somewhere when creating drafts or after
sending. You can assign which mailbox MailMate uses using the “Mailbox
▸ Mailbox Type” menu item (for each account).

I guess the answer is no then, but I might not have understood the
question correctly. What you would you like to happen to drafts and sent
messages?
