Hey Christoph,
this example works like a charm:
var c = {}; // object
var d = {}; // object
c.test = testvalue; // dot on object
d[test] = testvalue; // parens on object
alert( c.toJSONString() ); // alerts: {test : testvalue}
alert( c.toJSONString() === '{test:testvalue}' );
