Dear Aaron, This seems to be a problem of a more general nature (BUG ?) which has to do with the way a map in longitude / latitude projection is displayed in MapInfo (actually this should be a plat-carre projection : unprojected meaning that a 1*1 degree cell is square) To illustrate what kind of strange behaviour occurs with these kind of maps try the following : 1) Open the map grid15.tab (from the directory /world as supplied with mapinfo as demo data) 2) With map > options > projection change the projection to category "longitude / latitude" and projection "longitude / latitude" You will now see a grid of 15 by 15 degree cells all neatly drawn as squares 3) Zoom into one of the squares (the top and bottom rows give the most pronounced effect) and see what happens ................. ......? Why has the square morphed into a north-south elongated rectangle ? My best guess is that for displaying the map distances in degrees are measured in meters based on the range of latitudes and longitudes in the visible map. This explains that for the full map a 15 degree latitude difference is equal to a 15 degree longitude difference. Zooming into greater latitudes would (following the above reasoning) mean that 15 degrees latitude difference is much larger in meters than 15 degrees longitude difference, hence MapInfo draws the elongated rectangle...... .....BUT : sorry mapinfolks, to my understanding a plat-carre projection should still show a nice square ! Lets wait and see what MapInfo has to say on this one. There are approx. 70 individual files(.TAB) that cover California. I would like to have a dipiction of the state with it being Hill shaded with a color pallette applied based on elevation. The problem occurrs when I open all the files that cover the state. With all the files open, California get squished, it becomes shorter and wider. The state looses approx. 1/8th of its original height and gains a bit in its width. Does anyone know why this may be happening? Is there any type of fix that can be used. I am fairly new to the world of raster images and Vertical Mapper, but am very anxious to get this done. > > >Aaron Queheillalt >916-654-0768 >email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >---------------------------------------------------------------------- >To unsubscribe from this list, send e-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and put >"unsubscribe MAPINFO-L" in the message body, or contact [EMAIL PROTECTED] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe from this list, send e-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and put "unsubscribe MAPINFO-L" in the message body, or contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
