Thanks for everyone's replies. It looks like I'm not
the only one looking for this feature in MI - I'm a
newcomer to the MI camp, and when I found it had
almost zero raster functionality, I was amazed. Like
Rich, I also used Arcview with the Spatial Analyst
add-on last year for the same kind of
Bill,
Thanks for your always helpful and incisive reply. I don't really need
"region extraction", that's what Damian is looking for. I was just jumping
on the thread to express my general frustration that VM doesn't import
images. VM has such wonderful tools to reproject, resize, trim and merge

I agree. Pictures (especially the remote sensing types) do
contain data and they are very common sources for GIS
information. MapInfo's MIG format could be a start for a tool
that supports these, or likewise Vertical Mapper could add some
functionality to their product (after all, they already sup

Great idea. Needs a couple of steps though. First is the creation of the
needed reference gird and color numberization. Next you need a "clumping"
tool to define areas of adjacent color. Lastly you need a raster to vector
conversion if raster while faster is not as corrector

I use MI and Vertical Mapper. Vertical Mapper uses is quite flexible with
grid (grd & grc) files.
All that is needed is to be able to convert a raster i
