Re: MI Pie chart - pies size question

2000-01-23 Thread Poul Skyum

As far as I see you have only one (half) alternative to the use of the
WinChangedHandler and Set Shade commands.

This is to make a rutine that builds the pie chart based on region-objects. It'll be
quite time-consuming when you build it, but then, the pie's will stay constant in size
regardless of the map zoom. Unfortunately you'll also get a theme that stay fixed,
with no automatic updating when the attributes changes.

I've stayed with exactly the same problem and did not found any other solution. I'll
make an extra Shade-option, solving this problem, a wish for comming versions of
MapInfo.

 Hello!

I have a question regarding pie chart. When you zoom the map, pies are changing their
sizes. But, the customer wants the pies to have constant size regardless of the map
zoom.

Currently, I use WinChangedHandler and Set Shade command every time the map zoom
changes, but this is time-consuming when number of pies is 10,000+. Can anyone
recommend
 better solution?

 Thanks,

MI ODBC connection to Ingres 6.4

2000-01-23 Thread jarmo . peltomaki

I've connected to Ingres 6.4 running on Vax/Vms. Fetching data to MapInfo is
very slow. Ten thousand rows can take few hours. What might be the reason?
Something with Ingres configuration? There is nobody else using Ingres, Vax
or the network.

RE: MI registering CAD drawings

2000-01-23 Thread Geografía y Electrónica, SA de CV

You don't need special software. MapInfo pro will do this.

If you receive the autoCad drawing in DXF format, you need to import it
using the mapinfo /table/import option, and not the Universal Translator.
The /table/import lets you define 2 known points to register to, and UT
doesn't. You only have to make sure the drawing is in north-up format. If
not, it will end up very distorted. If this is the case, you can rotate
the drawing with autocad before importing.

If what you received is a .DWG drawing and you don't have Autocad to make a
DXF, you can 1)import it with the UT, in non-earth coordinates. 2) Export
it with /table/export, DXF format 3) import it again with mapinfo
/table/import/, specifying the required projection / Transformation.

Good luck.

Listers,

We are frequently sent CAD drawings drafted in local coordinate systems. I'd
like to be able to register these in real world coordinates when importing
them in MapInfo, and I know there's software out there to do this. Does
anyone have any suggestions as to what works well and is reasonably cheap?

MI 5.5 patch problem

2000-01-23 Thread Richard Greenwood

I have a TIFF that has stopped displaying, apparently after I installed the
5.5 patch. It displays as all black on the patched version of MI 5.5, but
displays correctly on un-patched versions of MI 5.5. Has anyone else
experienced this? Have you found a workaround?

Thanks,
Rich

I unfortunately don't have a solution for you. I'm just wondering if you
know what type of problems the patch is intended to fix. I was given the
disk but was unable to install it properly, most likely due to a flaw in the
disk itself though.

MI: Problems with MapInfo resetting page size in batch printing program

2000-01-23 Thread Robert Crossley

A client of mine is having trouble with the printer settings changing while
batch printing using a customised program that automates printing maps of
farms.

The system uses a map template to print the farms to a scale. The template
is specific to a page size and it allows the user to check the page
settings on the layout before going off and printing all farms in the batch
(sometimes up to 300). At this point the user makes sure the printer
settings are set to A3 (this is set to default anyway for that printer)
using MapInfos own printer set up. Once the user confirms that the printer
settings are correct, it goes off and prints all the farms. The program
does not use layouts or existing workspaces to run. It generates fresh
layouts for each farm programatically using a MapInfo map with objects
representing each type of feature to set the size and placement of the
windows when creating the layout.

The problem is that after a random number of farms, the printer starts p
rinting as though the MapInfo settings are for an A4 page. Checking in
MapInfo afterwards shows the printer as being set to A3 still. No rhyme or
reason as to when this problem will occur is apparent evidently. The
problem did not exist with version 5.0 of MapInfo.

We have tried 1. making the printer a local printer (normally it is shared)
to remove the interactions of the network; 2. making sure it is the default
printer for that computer, and 3. making sure that A3 is the default
setting for that printer. The printer is a HP 1120C. I am asking them to
try printing to a different printer to see if the problem only exists for
HP printers (again).

Has anyone else had problems along this line, and even better found a
cause? I suspect that it is something to do with the new printer selection
features of MapInfo, but it is hard to check because it is one of those
random errors.

TIA
Rob

2000-01-23 Thread Kazuhiko Yamashita

Brigette,

Try this site. You can download vector data of the world.
You can get zipped .e00 (Arcinfo export) files. When desired files are
extracted, you have to convert them into Mapinfo Tab files with Arc tools which
is already handled on Mapinfo as a Mapbasic tool.
