Rhys, Thank you very much for the reply. I have to decide if I will stick
replication, replication with MaxScale or migrate to a maria galera
cluster. In any case I have a lot of learning to do.

In general I advise avoiding all replication filtering where possible. For
whatever advantage it supposedly gives it very often just causes other problems.
