Re: [libreoffice-marketing] Marketing leadership and Markeing Wiki and US Wiki

Could we establish between ourselves who will take the lead as far as
representing the marketing group? IMHO, I believe that one or two
individuals (I prefer 2 individuals) should be elected to take the lead
as the marketing spokesperson. We will have to report back to the SC
from time to time on the direction/use/ ... of the marketing group. I
think that we should discuss this so that we can move on with a well
 coordinated strategy.

Florian and myself are the two members of the SC handling marketing and
communications, and we are both subscribers of this mailing list (I am
also subscribed to the US marketing list, having been for a very long
time a supporter of geography based marketing for the community).

Although we don't actively take part in every thread, we follow most of
them. So, the SC is in the marketing mailing list since day one.

The second area that we should be organising is the Wiki. It now has the
birthday icons on the front page. Could we ask that our leadership
identify the individuals in the marketing team be the only people
allowed to change the Marketing Wiki and any sub-pages? Our leads should
also have the ability to lock-down any pages when this is required. We
will also have to organise the US Marketing Wiki (as a sub-category) or
the main Marketing Wiki with similar permissions although making the
editing and lock-down priviliges only to the US Marketing members.

We will need these tool to work more effectively on marketing strategies.

I will try to summarize the marketing activities that we have discussed
within the SC, and the communications plan. They are both open to
improvements and contributions.

Re: [libreoffice-marketing] LibO in Education (JK-High School and NOT post grad. university/college)

You know, my biggest thought is that if we want to get LibO into a more

I agree totally. I am also a piano tuner by trade and have worked at
many universities. One of the marketing techniques that piano firms use
it selling at deep discount to school systems and universities. The
students get used to the brand and they tend to stick to the brand once
they purchase a personal piano. By some respects, Steinway had done the
same thing in the US and it has helped to keep the Steinway brand alive
and popular in many regions of the US. Yamaha has used the same
technique and has penetrated the Canadian educational system quite
deeply (not too sure about US ).

The same could be said for Apple and its marketing techniques in both US
and Canadian educational systems.

If one of our marketing techniques could concentrate on the educational
system, then we could probably have the same kind of success. However,
the biggest issue, in my experience, is that of IT and user level
support. We would have to make sure that this is covered.

I guess this should be discussed in the LibO in Education thread. I'll
copy this to that thread.

Yes we could ask that from an interested dev. Have any of you installed
Zotero and are still using it? A friend of mine installed it and she
found it too complicated to use.

What I have seen so far in Mendeley http://www.mendeley.com/ (which also
supossedly works with Zotero) looks really promising as a concept. It
integrates with OOo already and has a cloud for your articles, so that
you can access your research library from anywhere in cyberspace, and
various management features. That's the kind of thing that is needed. If
it was only free and not Kazaa/Skype financed it would be perfect.

Thanks, I'll take a closer look. How would you see in integrated better
into LibO? How would you have it working ideally in the present menu(s),
document writing etc.? Would you have any wishes other than you
mentioned already?

[libreoffice-marketing] The Upcoming Mac App Store

2010-10-20 Thread Benjamin Horst
http://www.apple.com/mac/app-store/

The Mac App Store is just like the App Store for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad.
So it’s as easy to find and download Mac apps as it is to add your favorite
magazine to iPad or a new game to iPod touch. You can browse Mac apps by
category, such as games, productivity, music, and more. Or do a quick search
for something specific. Read developer descriptions and user reviews. Flip
through screenshots. When you find an app you like, click to buy it.

We need to ensure that LibreOffice is available on the forthcoming Mac App
Store!

Good idea. Do you know when the first release of LibO final will be

Be sure to look up the requirements for inclusion on the Mac App store.
They are not onerous, but they include registering and paying an annual
fee of US$99, which TDF would need to do.
