[libreoffice-marketing] CeBIT flyers: New features in LibreOffice 5.1
Hi all, Attached is a flyer I'm working on for CeBIT in March, highlighting some of the new features in LO 5.1. I'm going to add some more design elements and assets related to the LO brand. We hope to have these finished on Friday so if anyone has any feedback, just give me a shout! [libreoffice-marketing] CeBIT 2014 impressions
CeBIT 2014: the community presenting itself in Hannover March is usually one of the busiest months of the year, at least for those of us located in Germany. Quite a chunk of events in parallel - CeBIT in Hannover, Linux-Infotag in Augsburg, and Chemnitzer Linux-Tage, to name a few - mark the beginning of the trade show season. While it has agreeably sized down the past years, CeBIT still is the major event to attend and to present ourselves. Thanks to the organization of especially Thomas Krumbein from Freies Office Deutschland e.V., we once again had a beautiful, shared booth, about 16 m² in size, where also FrODeV and Collabora presented themselves. Thanks to Thomas' experience, everything was extremely well prepared - flyers, brochures, flags, we even had a green floor and green LibreOffice balloons! CeBIT hash a rather mixed audience. While every year the trade show organizers claim more business people - it feels as it should be about 180% already... - there are also quite a few private end-users, students and students around. Talks at CeBIT are usually very worthy, and we even got to know about one rather large migration project going on at a pretty known corporation, which has not been made public yet. Plus, not to forget, many people stop by to congratulate and thank us for all the work we do, and showing us their appreciation for LibreOffice. LibreOffice was also represented at the Special Conference Open Source, as they call it, a public forum with talks and lectures around open source, open standards and free software, which is organized by Medialinx (formerly Linux New Media). Italo gave a talk about Migrating to LibreOffice: a Reference Protocol, and I explained the legal setup of TDF, with its boards and bodies, which was received very well. As usual, we shared a private appartment - something that is quite common at CeBIT, where regular hotels can easily cost a few hundred € per night (!), as essentially all Hannover is prepared for the major event of the year. Even if that saved us a lot of costs, CeBIT still is one of the more expensive trade shows, not only owed due to its length (it lasts from Monday to Friday, used to be even longer in the past), but also due to the high costs of building a booth, renting a space, and of course getting people in to Hannover. In comparison to other events, there are only a few free project spaces available, and those are too small for us, so I am happy Thomas took over the burden to plan and organize the booth for us. Still, being there is a must, to see others, and of course, to be seen. Talks to potential adopters yield a wide interest in LibreOffice, with rather concrete questions asked, and good contacts are made - so I am very much looking forward to CeBIT 2015! Re: [libreoffice-marketing] CeBIT 2014 impressions
Hi :) I think the event gets covered by various podcasts and blogs as well as more mainstream press. So if you can't find the TDF video then just google-it (or duck-duck-go -it or whatever). It would be great to get featured on some well known shows next year. There is bound to be some interesting story that some journo might be interested in covering. I really like the idea of sharing space at some of these trade-shows. I think it shows that we co-operate with other suites and programs and stuff = that we are part of an eco-system that covers a multitude of extremely different scenarios. If there is room to show-off a Raspberry Pi running LO then that might catch a journo's interest. Tiny but powerful. There are similarly sized machines but Raspberry Pi seems to catch a lot of attention in the press. Sounds like Thomas did an awesome job! It is impressive enough that people manage to organise representation at well-known trade-shows and such but it sounds like he took it to the next level. Congrats all! :) It makes lurkers, such as me, feel proud to be part of TDF. [libreoffice-marketing] CeBIT
Hello, I'd like to bring your attention to next year's CeBIT in Hannover. CeBIT is amongst the longest and most important trade shows, at least in Europe, and we have been there ever since, mostly due to the laudable efforts of Jacqueline and Thomas. It takes place early March and lasts (IMHO) 5 days. Given the international recognition and audience of CeBIT, it definitely makes sense to represent TDF internationally here, should we attend, e.g. by having people join for one or two days from the various at least European countries we are active in, and be present with talks. Thomas Krumbein from FrODeV kindly checked prices and conditions, and is willing to organize CeBIT and staff the booth for the full week (but of course, more than just one person is needed, see above). The drawback of CeBIT is the high costs, ranging around 7-10k € for the booth and booth rental, for about 12 m². While there are surely options of having a smaller booth, those don't make much sense - I'd rather prefer to not exhibit there, or to solely send in talk proposals, than joining at a small booth nobody looks at. Last year, we paid about 4k € or so, but feedback was that by not having an individual booth, our recognition was rather low. How do people generally feel about attending CeBIT and the associated costs? Is this something we should look forward into planning, and start looking for sponsors to cover parts of the cost, or shall we go for a different approach? Thoughts welcome, Florian -- To unsubscribe e-mail to: marketing+unsubscr...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/marketing/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted

Is this something we should look forward into planning, and start looking for sponsors to cover parts of the cost, or shall we go for a different approach? I think that if we indeed put the question of the costs next to whether we want to attend this event, then the real question is: what are we looking to achieve? If it's mere presence, then few people won't notice us like last year but that can still be helpful. Maybe we are looking to have a stronger investment this year because of the following (potential) reasons - we want to raise our brand awareness - we want to initiate new collaboration opportunities for the project - we want to attract the press - we have a special announcement to make or something specific to show Contrary to an actual business we don't have the question of meeting new and potential customers. But the question of the return on investment makes sense of course. So I'm not answering your question right away, just moving forward on it :-) Next we ought to see what specific tasks we should work on should we decide to go to the CeBit. best, -- Charles-H. [libreoffice-marketing] CeBIT status quo
Hello, here's a status quo on the CeBIT: - In the wiki at https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/DE/CeBIT2013, there are still not many volunteers for staffing the booth. - Costs are rather high this year, the current offer foresees approximately 4.000-5.000 € incl. booth construction, booth rental, fees and taxes, however, we'd need two. There are no sponsors on the horizon, but chances are we can have a shared booth with FrODeV, which I'd really appreciate. - Shortly before CeBIT, LibreOffice 4.0 will be released. We desperately miss advertising materials, flyers, merchandise, which would be rather important to have. In a nutshell, this is still a big construction site. Even if we invest the money - without people staffing the booth, and people working on the materials, it won't be a success. We still have some time (CeBIT is mid-March), but I hope to get some contributors by calling out on this list. ;-) Thanks, Flo -- Florian Effenberger, Chairman of the Board (Vorstandsvorsitzender) Tel: +49 8341 99660880 | Mobile: +49 151 14424108 Jabber: flo...@jabber.org | SIP: flo...@iptel.org The Document Foundation, Zimmerstr. 69, 10117 Berlin, Germany Gemeinnützige rechtsfähige Stiftung des bürgerlichen Rechts Legal details: http://www.documentfoundation.org/imprint -- Unsubscribe instructions: E-mail to marketing+h...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/marketing/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted

Re: [libreoffice-marketing] CeBIT preparations
Hi, thanks for jumping in so quickly here, everyone - that is really appreciated and a good sign of community strength! :) What I think is most important is someone who wears the hat, so to say. While I have experience with CeBIT, I desperately lack time at the moment, and there should be someone taking care of everything, having an overview and pushing things in the right direction. It's not desirable that only one does the work, but someone needs to coordinate everything. That's my main concern. :/ We had a few good proposals already, but apart from being on the list or in the wiki, nothing came out of them. So, any volunteers for wearing the hat, ideally someone who already had been at CeBIT, to share experience? Any other ideas? I'll try to help too, if you need any help with proofing, etc. Hi Marc, Carl, et al Wonderful. Read Florian's laster email and hopefully someone going to CeBit will take on the responsibility for the booth and such. But for the moment - how about we looking at what is on the wiki this evening and seeing what we could bring up to date quickly. Do you guys (and anyone else of course) want to meet up on IRC and we could do that together? //drew -- Unsubscribe instructions: E-mail to marketing+h...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/marketing/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted
[libreoffice-marketing] CeBIT preparations
Hello, we have booked a CeBIT booth together with FrODeV, but to be honest, despite lots of calls for action, the preparations are not really moving forward. I have not seen anyone working on creating or updating English materials, and organize that they are printed in time. In a nutshell, for international visitors, we right now simply have nothing at all to show or give away. :-( Plus, at FOSDEM I discovered, quite to my surprise, that so far just a few people from TDF are going to attend. Are people aware that such a booth also needs to be staffed, otherwise the impression we create is rather bad? :-) Plus, I thought we wanted to have some international representatives there as well. Just wanted to raise awareness again, since I'm not too overly happy with these developments. To be honest, looking at the current participation rate, it would have been better to maybe not have a booth at all. Better not being there, rather than with a bad impression. Sorry for the dramatic words, but I hope I could wake up some people. ;-) Florian -- Florian Effenberger flo...@documentfoundation.org Chairman of the Board at The Document Foundation Tel: +49 8341 99660880 | Mobile: +49 151 14424108 Skype: floeff | Twitter/Identi.ca: @floeff -- Unsubscribe instructions: E-mail to marketing+h...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/marketing/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted

[libreoffice-marketing] CeBIT press release
Hello, for this years' CeBIT, we should issue a press release. I recommend starting with maybe even a set of PRs at late January, early February. Anyone already worked on that or volunteers? Since CeBIT is in Germany, and I've been there many times, I'm happy to write a draft. ;-) Florian -- Florian Effenberger flo...@documentfoundation.org Chairman of the Board at The Document Foundation Tel: +49 8341 99660880 | Mobile: +49 151 14424108 Skype: floeff | Twitter/Identi.ca: @floeff -- Unsubscribe instructions: E-mail to marketing+h...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/marketing/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted
[libreoffice-marketing] CeBIT participation confirmed
Hello, I just received the confirmation that TDF will have one demo point at this years' CeBIT, taking place beginning of March in Hannover, Germany. The booth is organized by Freies Office Deutschland e.V. (thanks a lot to Thomas Krumbein for working on that!). We should start planning this soon, since we need a few people to staff the booth, produce collaterals and the like.
