The duties in the Seattle Branch of the Protected Resources Division will
support marine mammal conservation and endangered species recovery,
implementing the Marine Mammal Protection Act and Endangered Species Act
(ESA). This position will work on a team, incorporating the best available
scientific information and supporting the recovery program for Southern
Resident killer whales

Duties include conducting section 7 consultations under the ESA and working
with a variety of partners to implement actions in the Recovery Plan and
Species in the Spotlight Action Plan 2021-2025 for Southern Resident killer

*Fisheries Biologist in Protected Resources Long Beach Branch.  *This
position will support regulatory and conservation activities under the
Endangered Species Act, Marine Mammal Protection Act, and Magnuson Stevens
Act in marine waters off the U.S. West Coast that primarily involve marine
mammal, sea turtle, and nearshore habitat protection. Key responsibilities
include, but are not limited to, developing complex analytical frameworks
and in-depth stakeholder partnerships that can be used in creative
approaches to address high profile and controversial issues that include
protected resources interactions with West Coast fisheries. This position
will lead or assist as part of a team that engages in a wide range of
challenging policy and scientific efforts that include fisheries bycatch,
coastal infrastructure and energy development, habitat degradation and
enhancement, spatial planning, and numerous expanding human uses that
interact and often conflict with dynamic marine resources in need of
protection in a changing environment. The position will also fulfill
responsibilities related to marine habitat regulatory and conservation
work, including development and interpretation of analytical frameworks to
assess and minimize/mitigate impacts of human activities on marine habitat
designated as Essential Fish Habitat and/or critical habitat for humpback
whales, leatherback and green sea turtles, black abalone, Southern Resident
killer whales, and other ESA-listed species in the marine environment. This
position could be stationed in Long Beach, CA or Seattle, WA*. *For more
