Stranding Technician- Research Specialist 

Coastal Carolina University invites applications for a Stranding Technician 
position to perform laboratory and field work related to marine mammal 
strandings in South Carolina. This is a one-year, grant-funded position in the 
Department of Marine Science, but the position will be primarily based in 
Charleston, SC, and will work closely with the Marine Mammal Strandings and 
Life History Program at the National Ocean Service Laboratory in Charleston. 
Laboratory and field duties include, but are not limited to: 1) assisting in 
the retrieval and necropsy of dead stranded marine mammals, 2) assisting in the 
archiving of marine mammal tissues, 3) marine mammal skeletal preparation, 4) 
data entry into existing marine mammal databases, and 5) education/public 
outreach. Salary is $30,000 and includes full benefits. Position begins 
immediately. 

Qualifications: The candidate should have a B.S. degree in biology, marine 
science, or a related field from an accredited institution, be available to 
work weekends and holidays to respond to marine mammal strandings, and be able 
to work in adverse weather conditions. Good communication skills are a must. 
Knowledge of boat operation and computers are required. Knowledge of life 
history methods, such as reproductive analysis, and marine mammal anatomy are 
preferred.

The Southeast and Mid-Atlantic Marine Mammal Symposium will be held at Coastal 
Carolina University from Friday, April 1 to Sunday, April 3, 2011. SEAMAMMS is 
a regional, student-oriented scientific marine mammal meeting. Preference will 
be given to marine mammal research conducted in the mid-Atlantic and southeast 
US or conducted by students in the same region. Other topics will be considered 
as space is available.

The deadline for abstract submissions will be February 15th (midnight), and 
notification of acceptance should take no more than a week.  Accepted abstracts

registration discount, registration forms must be postmarked by March 10th.

The Southeast and Mid-Atlantic Marine Mammal Symposium will be held at Coastal 
Carolina University from Friday, March 23 to Sunday, March 25, 2018. SEAMAMMS 
is a regional, scientific marine mammal meeting that is open to all presenters 
and is very student-oriented. Preference will be given to marine mammal 
research conducted in the mid-Atlantic and southeast US or conducted by 
students and researchers based in the same region. Other topics will be 
considered as space is available.  The deadline for abstract submissions is 
February 12 (midnight).  You may register for the conference at any time, but 
the early registration deadline is March 1.


This year's keynote address will be by the Smithsonian Institution's new 
Curator of Marine Mammals, Dr. Michael McGowen, entitled, "The Evolution of 
Cetaceans: Phylogenomics, Morphology, and Comparative Biology

The abstract submission deadline for SEAMAMMS is this Monday, Feb. 12.  
SEAMAMMS (The Southeast and Mid-Atlantic Marine Mammal Symposium) will be held

[MARMAM] Visiting Assistant Professor position teaching Marine Mammals course

Dear Colleagues,

The School of the Coastal Environment at Coastal Carolina University invites 
applications for a temporary visiting assistant professor position in the 
Department of Marine Science for the 2020-2021 academic year. Teaching 
responsibilities will include an upper level undergraduate marine mammal's 
course as well as quantitative introductory interdisciplinary marine 
science/oceanography and sophomore level quantitative marine biology courses 
for undergraduate majors. Candidates that could also teach a quantitative upper 
level undergraduate fisheries science course are especially encouraged to 
apply. Applicants should have completed a Ph.D. in marine science or related 
field by August 2020. Previous teaching and post-doctoral experience are 
preferred.
