An action alert went out today that the police were going to start arresting people at 10 p.m. We had mixed messages of various sorts, but the Park Board (dominated by corporate developers who've benefited from the city's privatization of park management) voted to order arrests. Although it's cold and episodically been raining, a goodly number of supporters showed up and there was a something of a very rousing and enthusiastic little rally. There were small numbers of police here and there, but not large numbres and no wagons in evidence. A short while ago, I left to thaw my feet and took a drive around downtown to see if they were massing anywhere nearby (the old Chicago tactic). I saw nothing and decided that the city had, in all probability, blinked (again).
