The LobeLog article claims:

"Officials in Ankara are especially alarmed by reported discussions between the 
PYD and the regime about the Kurdish militia integrating its militants into the 
SAA and the PYD’s reported preparations for working with the SAA in an 
offensive to take back Idlib in exchange for Damascus handing Afrin and Manbij 
(currently controlled by Turkey and Turkish-backed Sunni Islamist forces and 
armed groups of Sunni Arab refugees) to the YPG."

Manbij is not "currently controlled by Turkey...", despite the claim made by 
Erdogan during the Turkish election campaign.  See:

(Jacobin editor Seth Ackerman is just as confused about economics as he 
is about politics. This is cookbook communism almost as schematic as 
Michael Albert's Parecon.)


Although Brus and Łaski advanced these ideas as a path for reforming 
existing socialist economies, it is possible to imagine a transformation 
to such a system from the starting point of a modern capitalist economy. 
Suppose that a democratically constituted Common Fund were to carry out 
the compulsory purchase of all financial assets owned by households: 
stocks and bonds, but also mutual funds and other wealth instruments. 
Payment for the assets would be deposited in households’ bank accounts — 
with ownership of those banks now in the hands of the Common Fund 
itself. At the end of this process, all private financial wealth 
balances would represent the liabilities not of mutual fund companies or 
other private securities issuers, but of the Common Fund. Meanwhile, the 
firms that make up society’s means of production would now constitute 
the Fund’s assets, and could be allocated among newly constituted 
socialized investment funds. These funds would manage their portfolios 
on the Fund’s account, rather than the account of private owners. And 
newly formed private businesses could, in time, be sold into this 
socialized capital market (nudged along by incentives favoring such 
sales) to ensure that it remained the predominant owner in the economy.

For American leftists wrestling with the question whether the Democratic 
Party can be remade into an instrument of “democratic socialism”, I 
recommend Simon Hannah’s newly published “A Party With Socialists in It: 
a History of the Labour Left” even though there is not a single word 
about Bernie Sanders. Since many on the left view the Democratic Party 
and British Labour as essentially the same, an excursion through Labour 
Party’s history would help to validate or falsify that claim.


Ironically, Corbyn himself lends credibility to the comparison but 
openly admitting that he got his ideas from Bernie Sanders. Playing 
Gaston to Corbyn’s Alphonse, Sanders saw Corbyn’s efforts as to 
transform politics and take on the establishment as parallel to his own 
campaign.


There is also the close affinity between the two politicians whose 
neoliberalism helped to fuel a leftist rebellion in both parties. Just 
as Corbyn and Sanders saw each other as kindred spirits, so did Tony 
Blair and Bill Clinton. Blair’s New Labour turn and Clinton’s reshaping 
of the Democratic Party to conform to the Democratic Leadership 
Council’s abandonment of working people and the poor were cut from the 
same cloth. Seeking middle-class support, particularly among those 
voters benefiting from the technical and financial sectors, the DP and 
Labour saw blue-collar workers as expendable.


All of this is indisputable. However, one cannot gloss over the class 
differences between the DP and Labour or their institutional and 
organizational distinctions. Reading Simon Hannah’s history of Labour 
will make you acutely aware of their differences.
